Hi everyone. It has been a while since I posted on here.I have a 1968 2000 Tc and I am still having some running issues despite replacing just about everything. The car starts fine and will run but when I take it out for a decent run I can be cruising at 50 mph and all of a sudden it will start misfiring and then runs normally for a bit and then starts the same behaviour. It is very frustrating as all I want to do is enjoy it.I have not been able to find a garage anywhere near me to help with my problem.I live in Liverpool.Does anyone know what the problem might be or can point me in the direction of a garage within a reasonable distance that can be trusted to help.

Mark Gray at MGBD is always helpful but I do not feel confident to travel to Wolverhampton in it at the moment.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The car has electronic ignition.

Kind regards
Tony Jenkins.

It's always difficult diagnosing a problem that happens to a car when it's driving at 50mph, and a couple of hundred miles away, but, if you wanted a stab in the dark, I'd say check the coill.

Have you replaced the needles & seats in the carb's float bowls? The reason I ask is SU has different sizes of orifices in the seats, depending on application, even though they all look the same. If you get one that is too small, the primary symptom is the car will start to misfire at a steady highway speed, but be fine when driving around town.

I have gotten these mixed up before, and I've also seen rebuild kits with incorrect sized seats.

Vern

Thanks for the reply Vern.Carbs have been rebuilt. It does the same at low speeds and around town.

Hi Tony,
I had the same problem with my 2200TC. It always occured with a warm engine. At first I thought it could be a fuel problem. Replacing the vacuum pipe and connectors brought a small progress.
Out of sheer desperation, I have greased the breaker plate assembly in the distributor.
It works, the problem disapeared and I feel the engine has even more power.
Maybe worth an attempt.
Good luck.
