Asking for photos & a few questions - comparison of 14" and 15" rostyles (+alternatives)

Dear forum members,

Could you post me photos of your P6 with either 14" and 15" rostyles?
Ideal would be side view photos of a 14" and 15" equipped car, so i can compare which optically looks better to me.
I would also request photos of the rear wheel arches to see the difference of the 14" and 15" rostyle wheel.

After i saw this picture of a paprika 3500S...
1974-rover-p6-3500s-adwew9.jpg

... i decided THIS IS MY WHEEL-STYLE!
I thought alot about the diffrent styles and types... but the Rostyle-look fits the Rover best i think.

I read almost trough all tire threats i could find on this forum and now i know that 14" Rostyles, or even 15" are not easy to find. When i saw 4x refurbished P5b-wheels on a german marketplace at 1.100 € (935 GBP) i decided to search through the same alternative rostyle looking wheels a lot of you guys also did.

I also want my P6 to look a little more "powerful", my actual wheels hide deep inside the wheels arches and i would like to change this look. In this forum i read that i need to work on the D-Post area with a jack to press them a little more outwards. I wouldn care about this, but i dont want to create and build a new D-Post area to fit the wheels. I dont want to create a wide body design, it should just look a bit wider if you know what i mean.
What is -based on your experience- the minimum offset for 205 tires on a 6" wide wheels?
Aren't the 14x6" minilite-wheels 30mm offset? is this the possible minimum with minor modifications on d-posts?

I am in contact with a company in the USA which offers Rostyle-Style steel-wheels. They are not able to change the pcd but they can change the offset/backspace according to their website.
I am awaiting their price offer...
My Plan is to change the Rovers pcd from 5x5" to 5x4,75" which isn't such a big diffrence than going to 5x4,5".
I have 2 options for me: 14x6" wheels with 205/75 R14, or 15x6" wheels with 205/65 R15.
Both have the same price, my personal favor is the 14" wheel.
What do you guys think/suggest?

Thanks, Simon

Hi, Before you rush headlong into wheel choices have you checked the availability of suitable tyres? The choices nowadays in 14" is becoming very limited for car tyres, most that are available are van tyres. Even 15" van tyres are not unknown.

Thanks for this hint. You are right, the choice for 205/75 R14 for normal road cars isn't that big. In Austria some companies still offer 1-2 brands not more. If i can't get them anymore i keep my almost new 185/80 r14 Vredestein Sprint Classic, but i am searching for 205mm width.
I am not driving the P6 as daily driver, mostly on small roads than on the motorway. What is the problem with van-tires?

I use 205/70 14s on my Minilites.

This company offer quite a good selection of 14" tyres and are cheaper than most:

Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 14"

Aren't 205/70 R14 too small? If i check this with a tire calculator it says the 205/70 14 is 35mm smaller in the diameter than the original 185/80 R14. That's a lot to me. Am i wrong?
May i see some pictures of your Wheel/Tire combination on the P6 and could you tell me your offset and wheel width? Do you have any problems on the D-Posts?

I used this site to compare the difference between the two sizes:

Will They Fit - Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator

Crucially, the speedo reading is only very slightly higher with the 205/70 tyre.

My wheels are 6" wide, the offset is not shown on them, but if I've measured correctly, they are ET 25.

Inner D-posts have been modified slightly to allow clearance.

Some useful info here:

Terrible picture of my car I'm afraid but it's the only one on my PC at the moment:

Hi, Because vans are carrying more weight the construction of the tyre is beefed up, this can give a harsher and noisier ride. Also the compound maybe different to give a longer life which will have less grip, which on a van will be offset by greater weight.

@RedBarchetta

Your wheel fitment looks very nice to me. This is the look i want to create on my P6.
Could you take a detail on your rear wheel arches and explain what you have done to your D-posts?

I will have a look at links you sent me.

@all

The rostyles on the P6 in this video
are theese 14" or 15"? They look a little deep dished.

Apparently i have exactly the same wheels with the P6B of RedBarchetta. They do fill the arches nicely and with 185 section tyres, i only had to push out a little the inner D-post with a jack. It is a common practice within P6 owners that want to fit wider than standard wheels, or / and with different offset. If you do a search within the forum for "jacking the D post" you will find more info.
The Rostyles on the video you posted seem to be genuine 14" P6 wheels. Mind you, Rostyles are incredibly heavy even for steel wheels, and some times not very well made. However i have to agree that they look really nice on a P6.

Around 25 years since I modified them, but if I remember right, careful use of a hammer to flatten the inner profile a little and a scissor jack to ease them outwards slightly.

Lovely looking TC Demetris. What size tyres are you using?

here's another option. Not for all but I'll stick it up anyway.

It runs 205 55 R16 Uniroyals (Uniroyals seem to come with soft sidewalls which is handy)

Needs some spacers but no wheel arch mods (on my shell at least!)

Depending on the country, the speed index can create a problem. My 280SE 3.5 with official 200 km/h topspeed required new tyres. HR-tyres are up to 210 km/h, but due to a certain formula in GER I slipped over the 210 km rule and had to look for VR-tyres. Not easy with 205/70-14, but Maxxis has a good and cheap tyre. The next ones are double and triple the price of it (Vredestein, Michelin). Under no circumstances I would use Van tyres, except you want to carry 20 passengers in your P6.
But even for the (standard...) V8 the HR tyre is legal, so there´s enough choice. Ok, with 15" or 16" the offer for modern and cheap tyres is best, and now´s up to the personal taste. I´m happy, I´ve got Vitesse 15"x6 wheels, on my opinion the best looking rim beside the Minilite, if Alu wheels are the choice. I can imagine, that the old Porsche Fuchs style wheel, which you can have as replicas today, would fit to the P6, but this requires different hubs.

In the UK it's down to your insurance company but the general rule seems to be that as long as you don't exceed the rated speed then you are insured.

yep, no increase in premium for my wheels. They wanted to know if I'd modified any of the body to get them to fit - for me that was a no! Easy peasy. Mine are V rated.

Thank you guys for hints and disscusion on this.

@1396midget.
The colour of your car is very nice, the silver wheels fit to this. But to be honest, that's not the look i want to create on my P6. 16" and especially your wheel design is too modern for me.

I will check the space on my wheel arches this weekend, to get a better feeling for my ideas.

@torinouk
Thanks for this pics! Your 15" Rostyles look more "deep dish" than i thought. i allways thought 14" wheels look deeper than the 15" wheels.
What is the width of your wheels? 5.5 or 5?

Is there anyone driving rostyles with spacers? what do you think about spacers
