Sorry for non Rover related, but I thought I’d ask just on the off chance anyone has experience with early flathead ford engines? No need to clog up the public forum if so, just send me a PM.
Thanks
Jim

Some side valve V8 aficionados get a bit upset when you call them flatheads (The engines not the aficionados) although either way could be dodgy :)

Maybe it was just the grumpy old man I was talking to but he really didn't like it

Apart from that, don't know much.

I think they're fighting a losing battle with that one.....

I've worked on those engines (notice how I didn't use the word "flathead") but not often.

I calls it like I sees it, sounds like a grumpy flathead for sure
I’ve just joined a Facebook group called The Flat Spot, a flathead Ford support group, so hopefully the right people will be along to answer shortly.
If not I’ll know what to call them :p

There is a bloke in my area with an early Ford, he is called flat head Phil, everyone calls him flat head Phil.
If someone were to call him sidevalve Phil, it is likely that he would not answer.

Just sayin

Sidevalve Phil sounds quite good actually, perhaps suggest he changes it :D
Not at all surprisingly the advice I got from a few specialists was to tear the whole thing down so I got the engine out today and will strip the rotating assembly after lunch.

I say, you don't half get some interesting things to play with.

Yeah my landlord likes his military vehicles. That’s a ‘42 f30a long range desert group truck. Pink was the most effective camouflage in desert conditions apparently.
Is a pain to work on tbh. Very heavy vehicle with only about 65hp from that 221cui I believe..I’m sure torque was fairly good though
