Another tapping V8

My 1970 v8 has only done 200 miles since having a new cam, timing gear, followers and push rods. After running in the cam, All has been well until recently when I’ve been getting a tapping noise that increases with engine revs. This occurs when the engine is warm and lasts for a minute or so before disappearing. If I continue driving, it tends to return a few minutes later but then clears again. The rocker shafts are fitted the correct way and there’s good oil flow at the top. It’s also had a crank regrind and shells and has great oil pressure. I have however noticed a little wear on around half of the push rods and it appears that they are touching their guide holes in the block. Could this create the tapping or have I got a duff follower? I’m using comma x flow 20w 50 oil

I would tend to think that contact with a pushrod will produce a scrub rather than a tapping sound. There should be no contact with the pushrod except at each end. Did you use genuine Land Rover parts or pattern parts? There are different grades of pattern parts, from good quality through to rubbish, so when in doubt, always use genuine.

Ideally you should use a 'running in' oil as opposed to a normal engine oil, and change it after running the cam in, and then again after 500km, then again at 1000km, all with filter changes. After that, fill with normal engine oil.
Tapping is usually a lifter that is sticking, allowing the camshaft to strike the lifter, thus producing the tapping sound. Lifters when new are convex across the base, and this concavity allows the lifter to rotate as it follows the eccentricity of the lobe.

Thanks for the response Ron. Having had my fingers burnt with pattern parts in the past, I used Rimmer. On the receipt, the followers are listed as OEM so should be ok really I would have thought. As for oil, I haven’t used running in oil but it was changed at 100 or so miles. The story is that the car had been off the road since 1983. The top end Work was carried out and then the car returned to the road in 2016, and the Car Used happily for 100 or so miles. At this point, the crank rope seal started leaking so I removed the engine, took the crank out had it reground and replaced the seal. While the crank was away the engine was stored upside down, with the followers still in the engine. Could this be the cause of the problem, one of the followers has failed to refill with oil properly?

Suppose it's possible? Get the tappet that's doing it out and maybe replace the innards and prime the lifter with oil?

sounds like a lifter problem, you really need to identify which one, stethoscope or long screwdriver to each rocker so you can hear.
