Another paint colour question

I'm taking my P6 to be resprayed next weekend and the guy has asked me if I can find out the original paint code. Having no clue I thought I'd ask those who know, namely you lot.

My car is a '72 2000 in the nutmeg/vomit yellow, any ideas on the paint code?

Thanks,

Ali

I am afraid that I am unable to assist with the paint colour code that you seek, but I do have a question if I may?

Will you be having your Rover painted in acrylic lacquer, which was the type of paint applied originally, or are you having a 2 Pack paint applied?

Ron.

I'll be honest Ron it didn't even cross my mind to ask! The car is not going to be entirely standard anyway. I have removed the boot and wing badges and filled the holes. I have also filled the holes for the chrome trim clips on the front wings as I will be applying some from of badging in their place, the rest of the chrome side trims will remain. I have also modified the rear bumper brackets so that the bumper sits 3mm from the body instead of over 25mm. I have had to make reparis to the bonet where the original badge was. The badge was in poor condition so I intend to fit a later item possibly SD1, as I'm sure you know good replacement P6B badges are hard to find at a sensible price. The paint its self is not going to be entrely standard either, the base colour will be the original shade, however a laquer will be applied that will give the paint a slight metalic/pearlescent finish. I can't wait to see the finished article.......................although I accept a classic rolling resto is never really finished.

2 Pack in the UK is now likely to be difficult thanks to new regs which deem it toxic! Everything now is water based. I can imagine that being a problem where I am in Thailand, we had a short storm last night which would have made a power washer seem weedy! Personally I prefer 2 pack of all the available choices because of its long term durability. Needs very good prep though (as does all paint) to be truly good quality. Best possible option is to use a 2 pack finish coat comprising 50% colour and 50% lacquer - that gives a really deep finish.

An SD1 later type bonnet badge won't work as it has a slightly curved base vs the flat base of the P6 one. An early SD1 skeletal type might be OK though. Why not just do without or use a seris 1 grille and badge? They look good with an S2 bonnet.

My car was done in acrylic lacquer back in '98. I have never been particularly satisfied with the finish compared to a 2-pot, but then the acrylic lacquer is much easier to touch up than 2-pot, at least according to my tame painter. And the acrylic lacquer looks close to the original finish, rather than overly deep and shiny, which doesn't quite seem (to me) to suit an otherwise completely original car.

Sounds like Almond but I dont know the code for it
Regards Colin

I have a list of paint codes and that lists Almond as GN37, used 1961-1972.

Other colours in my list are:

Atlantis blue JCF 1976-1980
Cameron green HCA 1971-1974
Mexico brown ACC 1971-1974
Monza red CCB 1970-1975
Pendelican white NCF 1975-1981
Sage greed HDD 1970-1978
Scarab blue JCA 1973-1975

My list is for MG cars, but the colour codes should be the same.

The question begs, if you find the colour foul, then why paint it that colour again!! Seems mad to me. Under bonnet and boot are black anyway ....... all you are left with are door shuts and backs of doors (which are probably horrible anyway).

Paint it a sensible colour!

The thought had crossed my mind to change the colour but in reality I don't mind the colour, I just like to call it vomit yellow as it amuses my tiny mind. I think it will look quite striking when its done. All the door shuts and doors are in really good condition too, so I've opted for the most economical option that will look best.

Those dates dont tally as it should be something like 71 to 74 or 70 to 75, but there was an Almond Green used on Minis, Minors,MGs etc. which would probably match those dates

Hi all, Thats typical of my luck, I now have 3 codes for Almond, Ruediger-Wicke quotes 170, Colin has GN-37, and Halfords came up with 161, My 1973 P6 needs touch up soon, Keith.
