Hello everyone, my name's Will. I'm new to P6 ownership but I've recently taken 'control' :D of my Dads 1973 3500 which has been in the family since 1977. He had P6's all through my childhood. Before the Rover I used to have a '74 Mk3 Cortina but i've since seen the error of my ways haha.. The Rover almost went to the scrapyard, but I had so many happy memories of it that it didn't seem right to let it go! besides, it was far too good a car to scrap! It had sat unused (in all weathers) for 4 years at my parents house and after freeing off the clutch and brakes and sorting out the earthing cables on the indicators etc it passed an M.O.T with no problems! The car was originally Mexico brown but is now Post Office Red? which looks a bit like Monza Red?..it has an SD1 5 speed 'box fitted and is a pleasure to drive..I am not a Club member yet but my Dad used to be (I've still got his clubcard) and I hope to join soon. Regards, Will.

Hi Will,

Welcome to the forum, nothing like having a good family history with you P6. If you decide to join, I will most probably be able to retain your fathers membership number for you?

Mike.

Welcome Will,

Can I ask, are you located in Crawley? The reason I ask is that I recenly saw a 73 Red 3500 very close to where I live (Pound Hill) which looked like it had been sitting around for some time. I was hoping to catch up with the owner as I see very few classic Rovers in my area.

Good Luck with the old girl, I hpe you get as much enjoyment out of driving a P6 as I do.

Cheers,
Mick

Hello again and thanks for the warm welcome. No I'm not in Crawley I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne, but the P6 is usually kept at my parents house in Gateshead (near the Metrocentre). I do this because my Cortina was vandalised at my flat (door kicked in, Stanley blade in tyre) and I would hate to see the same thing happen to the Rover...and yeah, I'm getting loads of enjoyment from the P6. It's like driving a new car compared to driving the Ford Cortina for 4 years, even though the Rover's older!

Hi Will I'm just up the road from you in Bedlington, I think I've seen your car parked near the Metro Centre, Swallwell-ish :?:
anyway I hope you enjoy it
Regards Colin

Welcome Will!

Great to hear of another P6 saved from the crusher. I never had a coke-bottle Cortina but I did succumb to a 1968 MkII in 1975. The gaping tinworm hole under the spare wheel's still fresh in my mind!

Anyway, loads of good people and hours of great reading on this forum...enjoy!

Stan

Colin, the Rover's in Dunston (beside Swalwell) so it could well have been mine, although my Dad tells me there used to be a P6 parked up somewhere in Swalwell. There also used to be a bloke with two P6's in Blaydon, which is again next to Swalwell, but I havn't seen those around in a while, hopefully they're just garaged and not scrapped (unless he's moved).

Stan, the Cortina was another one of those cars from my childhood I always wanted. I loved the American styling. Unfortunately it failed an M.O.T earlier this year when we discovered the rustproofing was hiding an awful lot of rust underneath it!! So it went to an enthusiast (It was a base model 1300) who has hopefully done something with it?

Hi Will the red one I saw was on the road between Dunston & Swallwell just after the Metro Centre bridge,

There was a couple of P6s near the top of that steep bank that goes up to Whickham from the traffic lights in the middle of Dunston a few years ago one was brown & if I remember rightly it got bumped.

I haven't been past that house in Blaydon for a while but he had 3 or 4 on the drive about 10 years ago but he seemed to move on to modern Rovers 400s 600s 800s etc.

There was also a willow green Series1 at the top of Whickham bank but it got heavily smashed up

Regards Colin
