Alexis update - Alexis update

She's looking very chipper, isn't she! I particularely like your as built series 1 front seats - they look in exceptional nick.

To answer Daves question. Yes the 3litre had got Rover P5 Rostyle on her.

To the interesting point that Chris made.

What this about the seats? Are they the "wrong" seats for the car? I've been under the impression that everything was original.
Please tell. I know that the car has been totally spoiled over the 30 odd years (The MOT chap last year was astounded when he got underneath). She's done 88,000 miles and yes i always thought that the seats were superb for her age.

She may be up for sale in the autumn so i'd be interested in knowing about the seats as i wouldn't want to mislead anyone when the time comes.

Cheers

The difference is in the back of the seat. S1's have a properly trimmed back with a roll of crash cushion at the top. S2's have a fibreglass panel covered in leathercloth secured with a single large chrome screw near the top centre. there are also minor differences to the side of the backrest low down to accomodate inertia reel belts.

The S1 seat carried over to the early S2's changing to the seat I described as the S2 seat around the 72/73 model year change. I've always thought the S1 seat was a much classier production. But many cars have had the interior changed and S2 seats fitted.

So, yes Al, your seats are original!

The box pleat / flat pleat discusion covers both seat types. Box pleat vinyl (which was offered on early 3500S to keep the price down) and leather were confined to 3500S (with both S1 and S2 style backs), flat pleat, as Al's, were for 2000's and 3500's. Later on things get a little muddier and certainly many late 2200TC's have box pleat leather. All cloth seats are broadly box pleat in style, except for a few S1's which were offered with a different type of cloth. There are vanishingly few of those around though.

Thanks for that Chris. After saying all that i must confess i am astounded by the condition of the seats. Well the whole car actually. When i fitted the rear seat belts and lifted the carpets and took the back seats out i couldn't believe the condition of the floor.
Apart from the clock that doesn't work and the fuel guage which seems to read 1/4 at most times she's great.
Overfilling the gearbox seems to have an adverse effect on reverse when she's warm but i'm living with that one. (i never park front in and down hill; just in case, just haven't had the time or inclination to fit the spare gearbox).

Thanks guys.

Yesterday took Alexis for her MOT. Like an expectant father waiting in the corridor at maternity.
She passed and "John the P6" was very impressed and said that underneath she as good as his 23,000 mile car. As he's got many P6's so i took his praise with a great deal of pride.
Please don't think i'm blowing Alexis' trumpet i'm just so pleased that i'll be V8 powered for another year.
Must get up to the bi-weekly classic turn out at the Griffin Inn in Bedworth.
