Air Filters

Hi all. Would anyone have a part number for the air filter on the P5b? Something local in Australia would be good. Thanks all !

I am using Ryco A1705 elements in my P6B, but dont know if they will fit a p5b. They are ID 89mm, OD 145mm, height 168mm. need longer retaining bolts maybe.

Be careful, P5b filters will fit P6bs, but not all listed filters for P6b will fit P5bs. The reason being is that P6b are round and P5b are oval, a lot of p6b equivalents have a moulded end and will not distort to the oval. The same filter is also fitted to early Range Rovers, the part number for them is 605191A, not 605191G. Pics from J Craddock's to illustrate. -

Unfortunately the Ryco A1750 are the round type fitted to Sd1 and does as said need longer retaining bolts. Sorry JP. This why care is needed when looking for P5b filters.

I did qualify my ref to the A1705, not being sure of the P5B shape. The bolts are easy to find - 1/4-20 .

Yes, you're right you did, which is why I explained what the difference is and what to look for. No offence meant. :)

Hi Kieron,

I have used these filters many years ago. Genuine Land Rover filters have no plastic moulding, the pleated filters being adjusted to suit the shape of the airbox.

Bummer, just noted that they won't ship to Australia. Sorry, Kieron.

Haha, but these do!

Ron.

How do these compare to the standard p6 filters? More like SD1? Did you adjust the mixture/needles ?

I think Ryco still make the P5B type. I Use K&N double length (with longer bolts) on my P6B and I think they make an oval version as well these days.

Hi. There was a good post I read on forum a good while back where Montego air filters were fitted into the P6B filter canister. They are best part of 8 inches long - and fit perfectly with only a mod required to the securing bolt - which needs to be much longer of course- needed. They allow much better air flow and I read results were good. I am in process of getting modified bolts made to length with help of a friend. I have tried them in the canister and fit is perfect. And a pair (readily available in uk as they are used on other vehicles) was cheaper than a pair smaller P6 filters!

if helps see pic - from eBay £10 each!
Sorry pic would not load poor wifi here today! EBay listing (UK) is filter type GFE1123 or ASU1816 sold by 400 convoy for Meastro Montego. But am sure others sell.

Yes, They're fitted to 6 pot SD1's and Sherpa diesel pilots. Which incidentally I fitted to my compressor as well, which quietened it down significantly.

These on my car vs original. Motaquip VFA491. About £5 each.

Makes sense - large P6b air filter box will handle the larger filters x2 with ease. You just need 2x longer bolts.
