the brakeservo looked a bit sad now the sills are nice black so took it of the cilinder and blasted it:

off course the gasket is not available on its own only in an expensive rebuild kit as far as aI could find on the internet.
But you can make your own off course. Tak a piece of gasket paper(?) is that proper English? make the holes and with a hammer you canb easily "cut" your gasket.

And they are sprayed. Gold out of the rattlecan with clearcoat of prof quality. My neighbour didn't have something to paint in the correct colour but had the rattlecan that is what we used.

Yes should be! I left the parts at the neighbour with a note that whatever he sprayed on a car he could use on the brakeservo if it were black silver or gold. He did not paint a car so he got a rattle can of gold and sprayed it for me. It is fine with me. officially it should be passified and that gives a yellowgoldish colour but hey this is next best! And way beter than it looked before!

totday decided to take on the strange contraption around the alternator. It is form an SD1 and some inventive DIY was done:

I wanted to mount an original p6 bracket and found one .
I mounted the bracket:

to find out that the arrangment of the alternator was wrong now!

I am not able to adjust it to tension the belt.
this is wrong:

so I dismantled the alternator and turned one half of the body and fabricated a bracket:
I am not really happy with the bracket so if someone has an orignal one for me that wpuld be awesome!!!

now I need to find a new belt because trhe old one is way to small. is 120cm about the right size?

I asked a question in the electrics department because I found out that one of the brushes was broken. Please have a look and see if ypou can help me to recover some new brushes.

and also a picture if the golden servo:

The servo looks mint!

Finding the right size belt is quite easy. Just use a piece of rope/string to make the loop, and measure that. Voila, you got your belt length right there. :)

thanks Thijs.
Today received the brushes. will assemble tomorrow

did not receive my hose for the powersteering:mad:. That is what keeping me from driving it right now....

Take your old power steering hose to a hydraulic hose company and they should be able to make you one up to match, possibly even while you wait. These people have to go to construction sites and fix heavy machinery on location, they have all the fittings required to make a hose up on the spot. Might get you back behind the wheel a bit sooner?

this morning the hose arrived!! I already bolted it on. Raiused the frontwheels started it up and turned left and right until full stop acouple a times. Wiil this be enough to get al trhe air out? Or do I really have to follow the procedure in the book. this involve unscrewing a bleed screw which I briefly did but onley powersteering fluid came out.....

here is a picture with the air filter fitted.

today severa little jobs done:

solved the mistery of the little maplight did not work and the light in the boot as did not work well. Also the horn did not work. That had to be a fuse I thought. checked them all but all seemed ok. I could not find anything else so checked the fuses again. And yes there was one suspicious. You could barely see a crack in the fuse but replaced it and all gremlins went out the door!!

also fine tuned the carbs and the kickdowncable. Now it really drives fine. The engine still runs a little uneven but I have never seen the pistons and rings or the camshaft. maybe it will improve during riding the car.
also installed my new steering wheel. It is an original rover plastic steeringwheel resembling wood and brushed centerspokes (2). I am happy. Always found the leather steeringwheel comfortable but the leather spokes really ugly.

I now will look for an LPG specialist in the North of the Netherlands and convert it to an LPG car for more economical driving.

The Rover 3500 has a sd1/triumph tr8 injection engine with a lucas 35DE8 distributor and a blue bosch coil. The injection part is of and back to carbs . There is no ballast resistor installed nor the ballastwire is in place. coil gets hot.
I am suspecting the coil or the distributor. Did I fry it not using a ballast resistor so giving it 12 volts the whole time instead less (9volts?) Or did the coil fail in such situation?
What can i do solve this?
I was thinking of buying a lumenition kit. but does anybody know what to buy without ballast resistor? Or should a buy a ballast resistor? could that be the main cause?

thanks for your answers!!
