A rare Car in Oz, now for sale

Yes, this is Scott of 'Scotts Old Rubber'. He's expressing surprise that it hasn't been snapped up yet & says it's going to have to be broken up if it doesn't sell this time.

the problem is that he's selling an unfinished project at the worst time of the year (post christmas credit crunch, even though yes, he had it for sale last year), but Australia is in an economic slump. Not many people are buying toys anymore. To top it off... it's a p6b, which aren't really popular or worth much in Australia.

Sad to say but I think he might be better off parting it out.

Are the four-pots of more novelty interest down there then?

To the average buyer in the street, not at all. Zero interest I would say. You almost never see a 4 pot anywhere around the place. There are 4 pots within the Rover Owner's club here in N.S.W, and they are well regarded by those members who own them. In terms of numbers though, the V8 is significantly more prominent.

The Estate that Scott has up for sale is the only one of its kind that I have ever seen in Australia. As such, the average buyer looking for a car wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

The only Rover that has any real appeal now to non Rover enthusiasts is the P6 in V8 format, and even more surprisingly amongst girls in their teens and early 20's.

Ron.

Ron, how do you come to that conclusion regarding the P6 V8 being popular amongst today's 20yr old girls?

Both my daughters are in their mid twenties.
I will ask their opinion on mine.....when its finished and shiney !

Mark.

I've had schoolgirls (& boys) comment favourably on Bruiser but l suspect it's more the street-style l imposed on her that attracted the remarks.

The four cylinder cars here are literally worthless. Parts cars at best. You do see some for sale every now and then and there are a few nice ones floating around that are cherished, but they are very unloved in the broader sense.

P6bs are also pretty ignored down here. Mechanically complex, a company that no longer exists, expensive at the time compared to faster, cheaper to maintain local cars, the odds just aren't in their favour.

I know of only two estates in Australia. Scotts is one, the other is on the road and driving, the owner has a p5b for sale at the moment.

Scotts car would need a lot of money spent on it as its a not even half finished project. It's not a Holden or Ford so it will be harder to sell in Australia! Based on value for money there are better Rovers for sale down under! If we were in the Uk there most likley would be more interest and the estate would be worth more money!

I tentively sold my first P6 to a mid 20's chick but after holding the car for a month with deposit down she reneged on the deal! She did originally agree to buy it as she thought she looked cool in it!

Hi ewokracing, I was drawn to your post from way back where you said there were 2 P6 Estates in Australia. I now own Scott's one and wondered where the other one might be? I am looking to re-assemble Scott's gaint jig-saw puzzle in the very near future and get it back on the road, as one of the very few series 1 estouras left and possibly the oldest, I hope to do it justice.

How old is the estate? I remember seeing pictures of it a long time ago..

That may well be my estoura, it had the series 2 grill, bonnet and side trims on it at one time. Scott had those taken off and replaced with original. I believe it was built in 1969 or 1970 - to be confirmed when I find the chassis number - build number is BA024552, engine number 42521450 C, if anyone can check its history from that I would be thrilled. I'll post photos when I get a chance.

What an old thread but a goody.

I know my 4 year old girl loves sitting in mine and makes all the appropriate driving actions, she loves it, unfortunatly its not currently going with blown head gasket and no oil pressure ( deprimed).

Unfortunately the conversion on these was so poor that even thinking about rain would make them leak water inside but well worth the restore at least monetarily if you sold it into the UK.
