Just recieved my car that was described as close to stage 1condition - bought off ebay not seen till it arrived by transporter today.

A quick look told me different - Help on where to source parts would be appreciated.
Outer sills x2 -Rear drivers wing - Drivers Door - Bonnet - Rear Valance - Both front wings
full interior carpet & underlay - all seats Sunvisors Maybe head lining

Good points its an old 1972 rover and i can rebuild it ( with Time & money

Bad bits i am in the dog house again

Complained to seller and expecting a refund of 25% or will open a dispute

Any assistance with parts or where to locate appreciated.

(is there a gallery on site so i could post some pictures)

You can add pictures directly using the attachment facility when posting.

Hi Coppertop,

Take a look here at the P6Club Links. You'll find if you scroll down the page to "Suppliers" the answer to pretty much all your needs.

I have dealt with Rover Classics mostly and Ian Wilson who runs the company is a really good chap.
Wadhams have panels etc

For carpets, goto Coverdale, you wont find better. When you do, specify that you want your carpet edges bound in the same colour as your interior (black seats = black binding) looks blinding!

Finally, join a good club, you'll find loads of mates that have done it before. I could recommend one

Oh dear - what did you pay for it?

Paid £1000 I new it wanted interior and a few bits here and there - but description to actual carcondition are vastly different.

thats the trouble with buying blind of ebay.

and to addinjury to it more i had to pay 250 to get it brought here.

I bought Sparky off ebay without looking at it first (It was 230 miles away).

There was a lot wrong with it which I would have been aware of if I had inspected it, but the engine had cost twice what I paid for the car so I wasn't too worried, as I could always take it out and plonk it on ebay.

Bets of luck with it

Richard

Sure i will get there eventually today is only day 1 of a long haul i think

The car is not what i originally wanted I a white 2000TC in decent condition
but with all the parts i have to change, it may yet become the car of my dreams.
i will start this weekend to strip out back to whats good from base uphill.

A hard lesson learnt here!!
You know you wont do it again!!
NEVER buy a car blind off Ebay, unless you are willing to go through the trauma of complaining etc!
You are asking for trouble!
Try to get a local member to look it over for you!
Stage or A1 condition is only a sellers view!
It may be A1 for a 40yr old car with predictable wear and tear, but A1 normally means fully restored or a very original low miles car, with no major issues!

I bought my 2000tc off ebay as a "reliable run around" (or some other ambigious term) and it broke down almost ever time I used it until I took it off the road to restore.

Mine was in very good nick when I got her, but the engine / breaks were hiding a bad secret. A month later the engine was in the bin and the brakes were shot to pieces. I would say, if I were to be honest, it cost me almost as much to put her right as to buy the car. Thing is, I looked at her before buying and still got bittern. I can't tell if the previous owner new she was hiding bad stuff but it's a few years down the line now and all the mechanics are sorted and I love her to bits. Stick with it, she'll pay you back in spades once sorted.

I think if you buy a 38 year old classic even if it is as described it will go wrong, they are old cars. But then that is part of the fun, I really loved rebuilding the engine, breaks and parts of the transmission on my old girl.

You're in the right place though, she would have been in the scrap yard if it was not for the help of members here.....

P.s. Here is a warning to others, if you look at the picture in my signature of mine she looks in very good nick body wise, but in the flesh she is quite tatty. Not rusty but the paint work is going and the interior needs redoing. The boot lid is a bit of a state too.

But how would you describe it if you were selling it on Ebay ?

If I were a chancer out to con someone
"Solid car, new engine, brakes and MOT. Needs only tiding to make a show winner"

But the reality is
"Solid car, new engine two years ago, good mechanics, needs a new interior and a respray. Some rust spots on exterior panels."

She takes a good picture at 10 yards so could get away with it until the car was viewed.

P.s. Just have to state, I'll never sell her.... :)

It does take a nice pic, but to be honest there are several shades of paint on it. Look carefully at the front door at the lower front and you can see a patch of a darker shade, dents between the front wheel and bumper (over the swauge line), bimetal corrosion around the screen jets and badge, front wings rotted out at the front (I have sand blasted these and fibreglassed them up for last year's show season), front valance holed on both sides where the wings meet it (Glassed up), rust coming through on the rear wing where it meets the side panel, gouge in N/S rear door, N/S front door badly skinned and rusting through at the bottom, and a small hole on the front N/S wing where the strengthening bracket is (Filled and painted)

Saying that it did come with four new wings, valance and N/S door so I do have the bits to fix it. All solid and rust free but all different colours :)

I have also found that the 'Never been welded' base unit, has been welded  , the stripped and rebuilt gearbox has a magnetic drain plug which looks like a christmas tree on speed, the wiring was terrible (hence his name), the carpet has been taken out and put back in badly with very little of the sound proofing, and the servo is full of brake fluid.

:)

But to be honest I am glad there were things wrong with it, so that I can fix them :) That is what it's all about isn't it?

Richard - off to the garage to strip down a couple of doors.

I'm glad we can admit to using filler on holes . It would be nice to afford all new panels when needed but life isn't like that these days

I've bought severa;lcars of ebay unseen, but I alway go to colect them. I,m not afaid to walk away when I get there if its not as described. Worse one was an MG Midget in Kent - Drove down with a trailor - looked good as I walked around it, however it was actually rotten all the way through. I leaned on the drivers seat and it pulled right through the floor pan. I left that one well alone. I bought my wifes car unseen and its been a great car.

I've got a set of carpets - new, but I sold the car I was going to use them on, so going cheap.. have a bonnet, probably have sunvisors and headlining and even a set of seats. Having a massive clear-out of parts at the moment due to the need to drop my collection down from seven cars to a few less.. and empty a shed or two out

Down by M1 J12.. send me a PM if you're interested..

I bought my 2000TC from ebay, but as it was in a lock up deceased since 1999 just around the corner i managed to drive around and have a butchers at it. As yet ive done nothing to it (had it since July 09), but thats going to change soon....well, it would have changed sooner had my Rover 25 not cost me £440 today (i only went in to get the tracking done too, viva my life lol).

But yeah, i knew the score. I know it needs work, i knew it came with a shedload of spares that may or may not be any good, it only cost me £150 and i was happy to part with that seeing as i could likely make it back by scrapping it if needed, but even when ive done nothing to it, i love it. I cant wait to get it on the road, and i love the fact that nobody has seen it bar me and whoever saw it on the trailer last year being dragged to its new tomb, since 1999.

A P6 saved. Splendid.
