A close shave on the hard shoulder.

Sadly, that doesn't surprise me one bit. On the way to work this morning I saw a TNT truck drift onto the hard shoulder and then stay there for some distance before coming back onto the inside lane.

That is one lucky bloke though!

I watched a large box van drift at least a foot into the hard shoulder on the M40 this week. As I passed I glanced left to see the driver apparently texting. I ride a motorcycle most of the time so tend to be at a level to notice people using phones on the motorway.

The advice at the end of the video is sound.

There is such a large proportion of road users that don't pay enough attention these days that you really have to take the tack that people cannot be trusted to take correct decisions in any circumstance. The ridiculous war on speed is I think the main reason it's getting worse. Inappropriate speed is a problem, speed is not. More important is having enough traffic officers to tackle poor standards. If a lorry is drifting between lanes they should be pulled up on it. I appreciate driving an HGV is hard work, but there is a big responsibility piloting such a large vehicle (which is why i feel they deserve decent pay and respect).
