Can anyone help looking to retire soon and I wanted to relive a previous experience of owning, caring for and showing a Cameron Green P6 again. Ideal car will have black box pleats leather/ambler seats. Top condition and original preferred and willing to travel as I live in Inverness and not mess about with being stingy with cash for the right car, can anyone help please. Call for a chat on 07979363703 if preferred. Thanks, Kevin

hi Kevo. I will give your number to a person I know who may be soon selling his really solid sorted Cameron Green 3500 Audi (1973 M reg). It’s his favourite colour and he has recently purchased the very rare Estora P6- also in Cameron Green and he has 40 wanted one for 40 years - the moons aligned a few weeks ago and he got not only the car he wanted but in the colour he loves. So his long term owned saloon may be coming up for sale as don’t think he wants to keep them both though I don’t know for sure. I will give your number to him today.

Dave

Many thanks Dave, I will keep my fingers crossed he gets in touch. Out of interest whereabouts in the country is the car, although I am happy to travel anywhere in the UK.

All the best,

Kevin

Hi kevin. I am afraid not good news he has decided to keep the 2 cars and it’s not going to be for sale now. He plans to keep both as can’t bring himself to sell his long term owned saloon. Apologies on this occasion best luck with your search.

Dave

Thanks for your help though Dave, much appreciated. How about sharing a few pics of your car to keep the juices flowing, please.

Have a good weekend.

Kevin

Ha no problem - I can do that! A couple I took recently ish - did for valuation. I spent the winter refurbishing interior and it’s looking much better. Though not finished yet- more on interior to come (a surprise lol). It’s a 3500s with SD1 LT77 5 speed box and SD1 engine. The rear bumper in pics is an old scrap one I put on while original is being re chromed along with overriders and number plate light (my poor wallet is in intensive care!) Lots done over past 9 years - a long list still to get through!
Good luck with your search if I see anything or hear (I will put a message on P6 club what’s app group I am on) I will let you know.

Dave

Thanks for these pics Dave and for keeping an eye out too. Explain to your wallet and all relatives it is all in a good cause. Interesting extras to the glove boxes? I am sure the 5 speed makes the world of difference to driving as I found that in an MGB Roadster likewise equipped with an SD1 gearbox and engine, it was nicer than a genuine MGBGTV8 I also had with overdrive which tended to lurch in and out on overdrive. Of the two P6s I had twenty odd years ago, the 3500 auto was nice and smooth but noticeably slower than the 3500S, although I felt the latter was out of legs above 70mph and wanted to go up another gear. On a plus note the 3500S also had power steering, which was nice, should have kept it as it was in the desired Cameron Green with black leather box pleats, it looked great but suffered badly underneath with tin worms. The 3500 auto was in Brigade Red, I swopped out it's black leather box pleats into the 3500S in lieu of the cloth seats and sold on the red car which was otherwise very good. In hindsight the 3500S would have been a very worthwhile fixer upper, it just coincided with getting divorced and moving house, so it lost out to a dealer who I think broke her up for spares. I found these pics of the 3500S as purchased.

Thanks for the pics on behalf of everyone on here.

Hi Kevo.
Ha the knee boxes! Well spotted! I picked up those with a 6x9 Pioneer speaker cut into each one at a breakers years ago now so took them with a view of giving them a try. I refurbished the interior over this winter and decided to give them a try and just see and hear what they sounded like up front. I had the original boxes re painted as well as these so if I wanted to put originals back it all matched. I also painted the speaker grills to reduce the visual impact of the speakers - to blend in more. My view to date is ‘jury is out’! The sound from them is not great (no surprise there really it’s not exactly a proper speaker box!) and visually just not sure! They also likely 30 plus year old speakers and not in best condition!
So it’s likely the original knee boxes will be going back in and either I will cut in to centre console sides and fit 4 inch speakers that just about fit - or go with a single 6 inch centre speaker - but modern one that’s actually “2 in 1” - a stereo single speaker that’s now made to great effect I am told specifically for classic cars (read about it on this forum a while ago). The latter I think is my preferred choice not sure about cutting out centre console for twin 4 inch speakers. You can’t beat pair decent 6 inch or 6 x 9 speakers on rear shelf that makes use of boot and give much better base. And I don’t want to cut into door cards!

Re 5 speed box - yes as you say the additional 5th just so much better for cruising with 2500 rev at 70mph - still surprises me how the cabin noise increases so much more between 60 and 70 though! You know you’re doing 70 plus without checking speedo! (mine still yet to be calibrated).

It’s such a shame the green 3500s went to scrap - it looks more than good enough to have had it’s underneath weak areas repaired. sadly timing was not good for you- it must have provided much needed bits to keep many other P6s alive. Pics look good great paint but it’s what we don’t see as I for one know from painful experience over last 10 years of ownership.

Yes, the car spent over a year sat at the back of the local garage owners plot rusting silently away further while I was working over 200 miles away, so the decision was made for me sadly. In hindsight now I should have paid someone else to get her fixed up and moved to where I was at the time, ho hum...

Stereo speakers in classics is always an issue, I have tried modern speakers in custom made flatter boxes to site under the seats, sort of works as a compromise to listening to something but not being hacked off by the sight of chopped door cards or parcel shelves. Will try a version of this on the new car when one shows up, just missed another Cameron Green recently albeit with beige leather rather than black, but the pics looked good with P5B chrome wheels. Will keep looking with cash on the hip, in the hope I spot the right car. Much easier living down south I suspect rather that up here in Inverness, but I am willing to travel if anyone is reading and has either a 3500 or a 3500S with leather/ambler box pleats on a Cameron Green car to sell.

Kevin

Just saw this - what a coincidence a Cameroon green one came up for not big money Anglia car auctions sold over weekend - Buck skin interior but not box pleat and looks like needs some love - but not bad for money in my view.

Dave

Thanks Dave, yes, I spotted it too and agree she looked like she might be in need of a little more than a hug aside from swopping out the interior to box pleats. Likewise, will be keeping 'em peeled in true Shaw Taylor fashion for the right car (cars).

Kevin

Still hunting for a nice 3500S in Cameron Green (ideal) other colours considered of course, black box pleat leather/ambler preferred. Anyone?

Thanks,

Kevin

So after a long trial I decided the knee box speakers had to go! I had my original unmolested knee boxes in storage (there was no way I would cut my ones up! I got these boxes from a scrap P6!)
I did what others on here have done and purchased a 6 inch speaker that has stereo via left right speakers sharing the 6 inch unit- quite a snazzy idea. Got it from Classic Car Stereo. Not cheapest but a decent quality unit.
Fitting it into Rover centre console behind grill
It was exact size for hole- but… (always a but) it was too thick! The centre part of the speaker as the ‘dual cone left n right’ module which juts out too far for the grill to go on. Grrrr! So how to fit.
Only way was to fit the speaker so it’s mounted behind the console hole- rather than in front of it the way standard speaker is secured. But how?
To get it behind I had to cut a 1.5 cm ‘slot’ in the speaker hole outer circumference so I could get the speaker the other side of the hole- then connect and test speaker, drill 4 x 3mm holes in the speaker and use self tap screws in the screw holes (with screw clips removed) and hold speaker in position (grabbed the centre module gently) and screw tight to speaker is firmly against rear of speaker mounting hole. A fair palaver but it worked and sound is good grill fits as it should and it all looks standard! My knee boxes back in and happy to have the standard look back (bar modern stereo which I can live with!.

I had a similar experience. Getting ready to install the new "stereo" speaker and coming to the same conclusion. Too thick. Rather than cutting the slot in the console, I removed the console, installed the speaker from the rear and then fiddled getting everything connected as I incrementally slid the console back in place. It worked but I hope to have no need to get back behind there anytime soon. The wiring ans the choke and fuel reserve cables were relatively easy. The real kicker was fitting the screw on the bracket that supports the back of the radio where it goes into the base unit.

That is very commendable the thought of taking entire console out was a defo ‘not if I can help it’. And for sake of the slot I cut I think it was worth it.

Wow time warp mint condition so original what’s not to like I wonder where they found her it’s stunning under 50k miles. Beautiful.
