3500 P6B Project... still not a runner!

Hiya Peeps, newbie to this forum. After years of owning other classics and having to sell them to pay for this and that, one late night on an interweb auction site, I pushed the button of no return while Wifey was away. Much to my amazement, a week later and I was the owner of a 1972 P6 3500 auto. I had been looking for a P6 project but resigned to it probably being a four pot, if I managed to get one on my limited budget..... as Wifey would say "you don't need one, we can't afford it" and "when are you selling it?" I don't get threatened with divorce anymore, I think Wifey has given up? Anyho back to the purchase, it did look Orange in the listing but turns out to be a shade of Tobacco leaf brown. It had been restored with a questionable respray and then stored after an MOT a few years a go. Previous owner decided to start a refresh by removing interior and then stopped due to work commitments. It has been fiddled with in the past, addition of side indicators and the absence of chrome side strips, although a set came with the car? Need to decide on S1 or S2 look as there are no trim clip holes? I have been spending time on the paintwork as it has never been flattened down since it's respray. Ever the optimist, I thought that chucking a new battery in, fresh fuel and a check of the fluids that the car would roar into life as it had only travelled 9 miles since it's clean MOT...... nothing happened other than a red ignition light and a buzzing sound from the right hand side of the dash? Tried again, totally dead, tried again... red light etc.. then nothing? So that is where I am at. I have bought and revived loads of non runners but the P6 has me stumped at the moment so I will be looking for loads of advice via the technical sections. Will keep peeps informed as work though the problems.IMG_20250824_170609897.jpg

I will need to address a dent to rear door and driver's door, the windows aren't dirty, it's primer overspray!

Check the earth strap connections are clean, bright both ends, lightly grease. Also the +ve connection. then the bolt through the drivers floor, then the engine earth strap (near side , near engine mount).

I checked power to earth bolt in driver's footwell, will clean up earth on engine etc.. Wondered if there was a main fuse/relay/junction which was prone to corrosion? A few bits of aftermarket wiring under the dash but I think that is for stereo?

No main fuse. The +ve peg in the floor has nuts both sides of floor that need checking, it isnt an earth and passes through the floor by a plastic insulator. Its next stop is the starter. Main harness power comes from the floor peg (inside car) and TWO wires from the alternator. If there is a wire floating around near the alternator it's probably a disconnected second wire. Sparky's/Welders have a nasty habit of only recconecting one wire after work instead of two.
