Hi everyone hoping to pick some brains here
I’m currently rebuilding a rover v8 3.5, I’ve have the bores oversized and the crank re ground.Upon reassembly I’ve noticed the new big end bearings have no oil hole to squirt up the bores but the old ones have.Ive called the machine shop that did the work and supplied the bearings and he said they obviously arnt required anymore and have been done away with and has seen a similar thing with the chevy v8s and that I shouldn’t worry .... can anyone point me in the right direction last thing I want is another knackered motor

I don't think they squirt oil up the bore at all as there is no oil drilling in the top of the rod to do so.
Only splash lubricated

It looks like they lubricate the bore as the oil journals line up with the hole in the rod ..... but I’ve not been able to find a choice for they all seem to listed as the same

I cannot recall seeing any reliefs in the shells that I have fitted in the past. Early Ford 289 con rods had an oil squirter hole in the con rod, this was not for lubrication it was aimed upward to cool the piston. They did away with the holes later on.
