2200TC Project

Harvey is correct as usual. IIRC box spanner needed is 3/4", shortened, 3/16" wide slit cut lengthways so it can slip over cable.

I'm not a happy bunny, it's in a garage having the gear selector finger installed, just had a call from the mechanic, it's the wrong one. He said it needs a bush, it's flopping about. He also said it's the bolt on type, not the one with the roll pin. I was under the impression that the later ones didn't need a bush. He has to bodge it, and I've been waiting months to have the job done, he did the shaft bushes a couple of months back. I may have to pay for yet another part and another visit to the garage!

Mystery switch. What is the Push/Pull switch on the same bracket as the Bonnet Release Pull? Never seen it before, my indicators stopped working and I'm in there investigating and just noticed it. And it's pulling current by the looks, when I turned the key saw some activity.

Sounds like an aftermarket accessory switch. I wonder if something is shorting out and has blown a fuse somewhere? I know some cars have a pull switch for the hazards, could it be that? Would explain no indicators.

Losing Oil and general splashing from around the Oil pump. Do I need to replace and is it fixable by the layman?

First off, just check it’s not left overs from an oil filter change. I’ve never been able to cleanly do it on these cars (maybe I’m just clumsy?).

I would clean thoroughly with brake cleaner above and below. That way you can be sure you know where it’s weeping.

Looking closely at the photo you have a drip off the oil pressure switch too which points to the above being a possibility.

I'll try that Steve, but it's a quite a bit dropping. On it now, thanks.

Make a note of the old dissy position (vacuum advance position relative to the no.1 plug always works for me). That way you’ll be in the right ball park for timing. Then make sure you move the ht cables position to position from the old cap to the new. Hopefully I’m not teaching your grandmother how to suck eggs.

Thanks Steve, your advice is always welcome!!

My mate with the Celica found this in one of his museum cars!!! He can't remember where he got it, or how old it is. Opened once for the photograph. "Come and get it", he said.

Dizzy replacement successful. One minor adjustment after refitting, fired on the second try. Ticking like a clock almost, bit of further tuning during the week. It's always apprehensiveness when I haven't done something before. Just do it.

Afternoon. I have been having gear stick issues for ever. I may have found the problem. I can't imagine how it happened.
The seat-bush is new, and fitted correctly. When all is assembled it's wrong, the gear-stick wont clear the stop to engage reverse. So obviously it was assembled to take the bolts and gear-changes were a nightmare. Is it possible to re-orientate the gear stick gubbins or is it a machine shop job?

You've got all the right parts, but not necessarily in the right order.....

Somewhere something is incorrectly assembled.
One tip, DON'T look in the parts book, it's shown incorrectly in there too.
I'm not sure if it's in the WM but it's worth looking.
If you post up pics of the individual parts I might be able to piece it together

I managed to get it right Harvey, I may have found the problem. The stop on the gear lever has rounded off severely, I can get into reverse position,
without pulling the lift lever.
