2200 TC engine Bolt size.

Hello, this maybe a stupid (probably the first of many) question but I have taken the bell housing off my 2200TC and now I want to mount the block to an engine stand. I know they are imperial but what size are the bolts I took out (so I can source some longer ones for the stand).
Thanks Steve.

Hi, thanks, sorry the mechanics at work have know idea when it comes to imperial, they are Merc trained and only "do" Metric. I just need the type that go into the block as we will need to drop the sump on the stand.
Cheers

Hi, Usual practice is if a bolt screws into a casting (the block) they have a coarse (UNC) thread, if it's a nut and bolt it's usually a fine (UNF) thread.

Bolts into a 2000/2200 cast iron block should be UNF. As vern says the two that thread into the sump at the bottom are UNC, the same as bolts on the head, and all over the V8 motor.

Hi, I stand corrected, it's been 30+ years since I've worked on the 4 pots. However in my defence I did say it was usual practice for coarse threads into castings.

Just remembered (hopefully correctly?) the format for BL range of bolts etc. In say BH606181, B = Bolt (S is a screw) H = Hexagon 6= UNF ( 5 is UNC) 06= Dia in 1/16" so 6/16 is 3/8" 18 = length ( might be in 1/8" so 18/8 is 2.25" long) and 1 is the finish ( zinc )
GHF etc are Unipart numbers . So there is a right old mixture in the later parts catalogues.
