2 rare items to be fitted to mth

That's brilliant Gareth many thanks.

and thanks Mark, that's really helpful too :)

As far as I know these are called 'Jesus handles'. That's because the passenger tends to loudly exclaim "Jesus!" when they grab hold of the grip under impressive acceleration.
May I ask Gareth (Hi, welcome back!) or TRM if they could kindly provide some more detailed photos of a folding boot floor, to help me make one myself? A few measurements would also be very useful.

Ok, found it. I can see where it fits, but are there any fitting instructions? e.g. how high to fit it to clear the map reading light, fixings holes equidistant from the map light, anything else I need to know before it goes all FUBAR on me? :)

Just center it vertically. They suit series 1 cars better than series 2, simply because of the map light.

Thanks for the photos Gareth. Very helpful. How are the different pieces of board joined together? Do the edges of the six panels touch each other, or is it all covered in carpet, with rows of stitching dividing the separate boards? Or is it all wrapped and sewn together with cloth of some sort, with carpet only on the top?

It does not sit on the pass side but when I start fitting it probably I will get some better photos around the edges it's stapled on

Hi bud here are a few pics

The first pic I sent there is 4 of them I have made a start on mine and cut about 2 inches off the top but still needs a bit more
Hope this helps

Nothing as good quality as that as you can see from Gareth's pictures. :)
Carpet, board, glue & staples are the constituent parts.

Hi, You could try putting 2 or 3 lengths of seat belt webbing across before affixing the carpet to take some of the strain off the carpet as a hinge.

Colin

Many thanks for the measurements and detail photos, Gareth, that's very helpful.
Colnerov, that is an excellent idea.
Making myself a folding boot floor remains on the back burner for now. I've begun preparing a replacement set of doors and wings for paint, after closer inspection of the bubbly bits in my paintwork revealed extensive corrosion! Prepping four doors and wings for paint is going to keep me busy for quite some time!

If your wings are holey I have four wings that are not holey. I can visit them as my daily exercise on a bicycle, they are a mile away, and give a condition report if you like.

Hi Mark. Thanks for the offer. As far as I know my replacement wings are okay. All will be revealed in the days to come. I went to Machine Mart and splashed out on a Clarkes 180 DA orbital sander/polisher today, plus a long extension flex and a cordless electril drill (at long last! 51 years old and I finally own my own electric drill! Yay!).
Commencing Tuesday I'll be out the back beyond my garden sanding my replacement panels back to metal...
Actually, if memory serves me correctly my replacement nearside front wing is a bit perforated around the sidelight cluster. Please feel free to ride hell for leather over to your storage space and investigate the condition of yours! Two miles of cycling shouldn't be too much, eh!? ;)
When we're all allowed out to play again I'd like to take a drive up to wherever you're domiciled and get in the queue behind ChrisW to have a go in your race car replica! ;) Perhaps you might be coerced in to taking me for a spin in that bad black Cobra too?:D

Blimey, I'd better start issuing tickets. Y'all might hate the thing, it is not as Rover intended. Having said that it is not a true racer either, I wanted a GT car, maybe I have one, I don't know, it may be only my cup of tea and nobody else's ?

I doubt it, but even if it was, that shouldn't bother you. I've had/used/driven things that most other people didn't like/couldn't understand why, and it never bothered me because I knew that I knew better.

You know what they say about the eye of the beholder. It doesn't bother me that others may not like it, and I'm sure that a lot of folks won't.
It still does not handle how I would like it to, but in conversation with my MOT guy a few weeks ago, he said I may have to accept that it never will, some cars have 'character' It still gives me great pleasure to drive it. Jim will be going down the same path soon, endless adjustments and testing.
If I had never had an Elan I probably would not know any better, but I do know, and I want it to be good.
I would like to send it to a chassis shop and get it corner weighted and have them run computer calcs for spring / damper rates, but I have way too much in it already spend out on that. And besides I am hoping to get enough spare springs in my shop at home to refurb my mattress.

I like what you have done to it but each to their own as you say. I was at a show when a couple of P6 experts sneering at Sparky saying it wasn't a real Rover. I did point out that the engine was a Rover engine albeit the wrong size, the gearbox and wheels came from an SD1, so still Rover. Their point however was that it couldn't be a Rover with a V8 in it. The P6 was designed with a 4 cylinder unit and they refused to accept a P6 as a Rover with anything else?

Wonder what they would think now it has EFI and a Jag diff :):p

That's just the mark of the uneducated. The Rover V8 is more Rover than Buick, with all of the changes and modifications that were carried out by Rover to put it into production.
