1975 P6b Transmission issue?

Gee you could have done a 4 speed conversion for near that amount!
Probably, but I would be using an unknown gearbox, and would have to put the car through a compliance process. At least I know I have a transmission that should last another 50 years.

So another question for the all knowing Harvey I think.

I have got the transmission back in the car, refilled with fluid, and I took it for a run around the block. At least I have drive now which is an improvement. It seems to shift through the gears but the car stalls when you come to a standstill under braking. It fires back up again and idles when put in back into drive.

Could this be related to the kickdown cable that I am not convinced I have set correctly yet?

Bit more investigating today and I think I have worked out the kickdown cable. It would appear that the BW65 cables don't have a crimped ferrule that is always referred to. At least, I have two cables and neither of them have ferrules. I have ended up holding the throttle pedal wide open, and then adjusting the kickdown cable to be just past the valve opening point. I hope that is about right - haven't road tested yet though.

I did have another thought re the engine dying when I come to a stop. I did a compression test on the engine and the results weren't good despite the car idling perfectly, and no hint of smoke.

I guess the heads will be coming off next. Would this affect how the trans operates at low speeds?

Automatics are a mystery to me. I have always had manuals.

This car is fighting me all the way. But I will win!
