1974 3500 Auto, Reg. STR168N Almond coachwork

Hello,
I need any information on my car that is costing me a lot of cash, I stupidly purchased from up north without viewing, from a very "nice reliable chap".
Could not locate paperwork at the time my courier picked up vehicle?? all documents to be sent??
Needless to say months later emails and phone messages, nix, nil, nothing. Moved house as well.
No info from the DVLA, must have been off road for years, and in a mess. So, has this car been somewhere near you? Any ideas?
Regards
Brian

Did the car come with number plates on it ? STR 18N comes up as a Brown Lincoln on DVLA website and MOT checker.
You may have to approach DVLA with the chassis number.
If that does not bear fruit then you will have to arrange for an identity inspection and go from there.
If it does indeed have a valid chassis number I would take those number plates off if fitted and keep them away from the car. DVLA can get their knickers in a right old knot if they get conflicting info.

Ho hum.......
Right DVLA do hold records for that car, all you need to do is apply for a V5C in your name.

I have apologised for the error
The V5C I already have, but as stated on the front. This document is not proof of ownership
So what does? After paying out wads of cash, hours under, and nearly complete, can some moron claim it back?
regards
Brian

I think the V5C is the only document you really need.

I'm not a legal expert but I think the only 'title' document recording a purchase would be an invoice or a 'sold as seen' type piece of paper signed by both the seller & yourself at the time of hand over. Such documents will of course become redundant on a subsequent change of ownership, so may be pretty meaningless!

As you say the V5C does not record ownership, but it's as good as you get in the UK as it's at least a public record.

If you have the V5c just apply for the V5 they will (usually) send the new v5, complete and send off a V62 (make copies of V5c and v62)

Apply for a vehicle registration certificate (form V62)

I have done this in the past when the seller couldn't be bother to stick the old v5 in the post. Have also applied for a V5 when I bought a car without one without hassles.

They can write to the registered keeper and let them know someone is trying to register the car but it is a standard no reply in X days it goes ahead.

If you have the car and the V5c I wouldnt worry about challenging ownership, there will have been calls/emails/advert/payment at the point of sale. Unless there is outstanding finance on the car.

Have you not kept up? I have had more cars in my 82 years, than the proverbial "hot dinners"
What did I do in the past? Two conscripted, wasted years in the army for a start (Should still be in force though, if you want people knifing each other, bring it back).
I thought I had better stop there.
Many of members have great grand children, thought not.
Back to said Rover.
Because I could not pick up the car myself, to far, etc, Courier forgot to pick up a bill of sale, bla, bla.
I badly wanted a 3500 Auto as my last project.
I based my purchase on old classic car owner values, ie truth, honesty, full tank etc.
So, it seems it had to be a Rover owner who finally puts the kibosh on my classic history.
If you like country and western music, look up Ray Price "I wish I was 18 again"
Regards,
Brian,

If I was stupid, I would write my own.
I thought the purpose of the forum, was to give genuine help, not forge documents.
I know the post was probably meant to be frivolous, but that was not funny to me

Brian! I sympathise with your predicament with the paperwork for your Rover not being in order. That said, don't be grumpy. I'm pretty sure Cobraboy was being flippant. Folks on here are for the most part genuine and congenial, and the trolls and morons get quietly taken aside. Here's hoping the DVLA resolve your issue to your satisfaction, and that you get to enjoy your P6 soon, restoring you to good humour.

No good trying to palm the matter off by inferring me as being grumpy, (where did grumpy come from) far from it, look at some of my other posts, but I must admit, at times, people can wind me up, but at the moment I am in my usual good humour
P.S DVLA no help whatsoever

Ah Sense of humour failure.
Life is for fun and banter, I am happy to give and take it in equal measure and will always do so, anyone can be grumpy and dull.

PS I do a nice line in V5C's if you need one guv.

If you fill out the V62 forum, post it to the DVLA they will send you a V5. You have the V5C so there isnt any reason for them not to.

They have messages stating they have delays due to covid, normally a v5 takes 4 weeks, the DVLA show last issue of V5 was September 2019 so not processed yet (giving the seller benefit of doubt he posted it.)

With the V5c you can for example tax the car, I have done this a couple of times. Did it in Northern Ireland once, bought the car, took the v5c to the post office taxed it have also done it online.

Unfortunately the DVLA arent the quickest just now. I am trying to register a US import an they arent sending the document packs so I can feel your pain with the DVLA.

If you havent done the V62 yet give it a go, you will see that as you have the V5c you don't need to pay the £25 fee. Make copies before posting it to them.

A sense of humour. Is not being extremity stupid, "Guv" what local rag did that come from.
Boyo, I come from the East End of London, so Guv does not offend me, we Cockneys can take all that .
So does being bombed out in "41" by friendly Germans make a person grumpy for life.
Stick with the play station, and whatever your on.
Good Luck
