11 AC Regulator

I have a 1972 2000 and recently bought a new voltage regulator. I just went to fit it but the terminals are not the same.
The original has an F, -ve and +ve in one connector with and additional +ve on a single connector.
The new regulator only has the F -ve and +ve in the one 3 way connector and no 4th terminal for the extra +ve.
Anyone come across this problem and any advice as to how it should be wired?

There are different types for different applications. I'm not sure that the wrong type can be wired to fit. Out of interest, what colour is it?

I bought it from a company called classicmotorspares on eBay it was advertised as a 4TR regulator for P6 2000 and 3500 and it is black. I appreciate that the original is red.

ISTR the black ones were different, hence my asking the colour. I had black ones on a Jag 420 and a Humber Sceptre Arrows I had, and they weren't interchangeable with the Rover ones I had available. I could make a guess that the black were for positive earth and the red for negative, but that's nothing more than a guess, and may not be relevant at all.

I have been in touch with the supplier W H Motor Spares, who will swap it for a 4 terminal type, so hopefully problem solved.

On my P5B which i am restoring, i have a black one fitted and looking at the amp meter, it seems to work. The black one is a four pin type and i also have a red one which has 3 pins. I haven't driven the car, just let the engine run.
