    Series 1 Wipers

Managed to get everything back together today and the screeching is no longer occurring, so hopefully it was just a lubrication issue. Thanks again everyone for the input. BTW for anyone attempting this I have the link system which looks a lot simpler than the other types listed in the manual!

    Series 1 Wipers

Thanks for the advice everyone. Anything to worry about with the big plastic wheel or does it just lift out and go back in? Have not reassembled the bits yet as my manual advises soaking the armature bearing in SAE 20 oil for 24 hours. Hopefully Castrol GTX will do the job! It also says to soak...

Thanks Demetris! I will try reassembling everything and see what happens.

    Series 1 Wipers

Hi folks and Happy New Year! Hoping somebody can shed some light on an issue with my wiper motor. By way of background, a few weeks ago the wiper motor started occasionally emitting a really loud screeching sound accompanied by slow/juddering wipers. Having resolved to take action, today I...

    New Member and Ammeter Question

Welcome Mark. I too drive my car on a daily basis, much to the amusement of my work colleagues who park alongside me in the garage below the office. I don’t have the fancy doodads that johnsimister mentions but traffic in and out of Wellington is probably somewhat different to London!

    NOS or “Retro” Brake Discs?

Hi folks. Thanks for your contributions. I have a lead on some second hand items in Wellington from a series 1 2000SC which I assume will be interchangeable (?). Any thoughts on what the minimum thickness should be to make them worth fitting? Michael - thanks for your kind offer. How do I PM you?

    NOS or “Retro” Brake Discs?

Hi folks I need new front brake discs to get my Series 1 2000TC 1970 back on the road. Being in the far right hand corner of the world there don’t appear to be any in the country so postage from the UK is going to be painful. Is it worth paying extra for NOS items as opposed to “pattern” modern...

New member in Wellington New Zealand

Sounds good. My 2000TC failed it’s WOF last week for a variety of reasons including rust and various mechanical maladies but a “care package“ is on its way from WINS to address most of the issues (aside from the rust) so I hope to be back using it as my daily driver in the near future.

    Fuel leak from this joint

Hi again I took the joint apart as suggested. I was worried that the tube does not seem to be straight coming out of the “T” joint on the float chamber, and therefore very nervous about cross threading when I put things back together. Also I couldn’t take the inner hex off the tube. Anyway, as...

    Fuel leak from this joint

Hi Team I have a slow drip of fuel from this joint having had some work done on the car recently. The black tube is the one bringing fuel from the fuel pump across the engine bay. I wondered if I could simply tighten something a little, but when I put a spanner on the “bolt“ nearest the float...

    Heater fan wiring

Hi John. I have the exact same issue on my series 1 2000 TC although unlike you I have not done any work on the car. Did you resolve the problem? Regards Peter

Series 1 Steering Wheel Removal - no PAS

Hi Mike Thanks very much for the quick response. I have had another squirm around the footwell today and I think I’m going to leave this for my garage to tackle. I have a complete NOS switch to fit and one of the problems I’m hoping to solve is a lack of ‘cancel‘ after completing a turn so I...

Series 1 Steering Wheel Removal - no PAS

Hi team I would like to remove the wheel in order to fit a new turn signal switch. The manual talks about a special screw at the back of the wheel to release it. I’ve poked and prodded the back of the plastic oblong casing that fits between the wheel and the dash but I can’t locate a hole in...

    Driver's door adjustment

Thanks everyone. I think I'll see if the problem settles down before trying to change the door "trajectory". I have kept the spare piece of channel and will attempt to make the 45 degree corner with that piece. I'll end up with two joins to glue but it will be easier to shape it on a bench than...

    Driver's door adjustment

Hi everyone. I spent the afternoon fitting a new driver's door seal. Got it from Scott's Old Rubber and it seems to do the job nicely! In fact a bit too well - because now I have to slam the door hard to close it. Is there a way to adjust the door to accomodate the new seal?

    Radiator Bottom Bolt

Thanks for the info everybody. Radiator is vertical flow. I tried Geoff at Wins for the part but he was unable to help. Any other ideas as to who might have this?

    Radiator Bottom Bolt

Does anybody know what size bolt screws into the bottom of the radiator on a series 1 2000 TC? At the last service my mechanic observed that this is missing, and that the radiator is "flapping" back and forth, chafing one of the hoses. Thks.

Poor idling/running - in what order do I do this?

Hi Harvey P6 Thanks for your reply. Have just looked at the forum post "Sick 2000TC" which has a photo of the "smiley slot" I am referring to and Chrisyork has confirmed that it is normal for there to be no nut present. Tried to upload a photo but got the message "Sorry, the board attachment...

Poor idling/running - in what order do I do this?

Thought I'd update progress as play has been curtailed by rain (hopefully the case with the cricket as well given the thumping that the Black Caps are getting from England!) Have replaced plugs, points and distributor cap with no noticeable effect. Ordered a new set of leads last week from...

Poor idling/running - in what order do I do this?

Thanks for your ideas everyone - looks like another rovering weekend coming up (sunshine promised once again!). Must admit I'm beginning to wonder about air leaks myself so will try chasing those down as suggested - still nervous about applying my novice skills to carb dismantling when I don't...

Poor idling/running - in what order do I do this?

Tried to slow down idle to 700 ish using proper tachometer but best I could do was get it into a range of 900 ish to "almost stalling" below 600. On this basis I can say that the timing traverses the 6 degree mark but as I can't get the idle to settle below a much higher rev rate I'm unable to...
