    Heater Box seals

I glued together bits of hollow D section soft rubber extrusion using a quality supper glue. Worked a treat.

Speedo hunting at lowspeed, and under-reading

As well as a jumping needle, I had a weird fault where the indicated speed didn't change when accelerating and only showed the new speed when you lifted off. (getting a surprise at how fast I was going sometimes) Cleaned the cable with wax and grease remover and a fresh dose of lithium grease...

    Revitalised Wiper Delay

Wins sell them Wins International - Wiper Motor Mounts - set of 3 Or search for "anti vibration mounts" and take your pick. I got mine from 'RS" who do anything technical it seems. Don't know if they are in the UK though. They have 461 options for that search. Have fun...:thumb:

    Heater air flow leaks

All back together again. Patched up the spaces on the cold air ducts. Heater matrix all great, tested with hot water. All flap seals rebuilt with 3mm neoprene foam and preloaded overnight to form a perfect seat. Any surface rust removed and complete anti-rust treatment. Fan motor dismantled and...

    Heater air flow leaks

Another question for you all. After some to-ing and fro-ing with the garden hose I've improved the flow through the matrix after some blobby things found their way out. However, on "heater Box Anyone" I read that good flow doesn't mean a good matrix due to an 'internal bypass' or is this just...

    Heater air flow leaks

Brilliant.:thumb: Thanks Demetris. Always a logical reason for things in a P6. Have already pulled the glove box's out and the radio consul to get at the control linkages. That was the only way to disconnect them due to my large hands and small spaces. With all that cold air under the dash, it's...

    Heater air flow leaks

Hi All Pulled my heater out today to try improve hot and cold air flows. Figured most of the air leaks are from foam seals on the flaps being shot, which they are, but what has caught me eye is the gaps in the duct to the face cold air vents. If you inspect the photo looking into the top hole...

    De Deon Tube illustrated

Don't know if I'm correct or not but NOS is 40+ years old already so rubber parts will be pretty stiff by now, even if unused. Tom's going to try one soon, we'll know in a year or so if his is a goodie:rolleyes:.

    Odd bolts

The Monroe's were on the car when got it so can't help you there. I pulled them off to check their condition and reinstalled as they are fine. However, I did replace the fronts recently with GAZ adjustable shocks. Got them from Rimmers in the UK. (best price) but with freight and GST it becomes...

    Odd bolts

Good spotting. They came on the car so can't compare but they do ride very well together with the Monroe shocks And they look good

Your correct. But being dependant on remote trading I cant afford to burn any bridges especially with the smaller suppliers. I prefer to contact them directly and resolve issues out of the limelight. (but if that fails, it's open slather:LOL:)

Your welcome. I have the advantage of being able to take reasonable photo's when under the car so do so whenever possible.

"Scotts" no longer list the boot:(. Oil or grease shouldn't matter if there are no leaks:thumb:. When I replace the boot, I'm going to follow in your footsteps and go grease as the creaking has returned. (When I had the shocks out yesterday, I could get the car to bounce to its full suspension...

    Car horn

Purchased the Hella pencil beams locally via my sons work. (Auto electrician) Can't remember the price but you get what you pay for. When I ordered these, they thought they'd do me a favor and got some cheaper ones that claimed to do the same thing. I bench tested these and took them straight...

Hi All It's been less than a year since I completed this and have noticed the boot is starting to crack. There is no oil in there so the seals are holding out, just the boot...... This was sourced from one of the major P6 parts suppliers in the UK . This isn't an unusual occurrence from what...

    Odd bolts

All sorted. Tapped, HT bolts, lock washer and Loctite. That'll hold. Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, found this article when trying to identify those bolts above. I don't necessary agree or disagree but just something to keep in the back of your mind to bring up at the pub one day...

    Odd bolts

Thanks for that guys, thought they may be a type of locking bolt I'd not come across before. Great idea John. Will run the best one through all the holes as my new bolts are rather tight. (Otherwise a tap will be used)

    Odd bolts

Hi All. I pulled the rear shocks out today to check their condition and found these bolts holding the bottom plate to the lower suspension link arm. They look like they are there for a particular purpose but they all have seen better days. Can they be replaced with ordinary bolts and if not, are...

    Car horn

Hi Gerald When I first got the car, my H9 horn set sounded like a goose being strangled. Got them on the bench, cleaned them up and re-tuned them. Easy to do by undoing the big lock nut and adjusting the centre screw. You'll need a 12v power source, like a battery and some bits of wire. Take...

    Car horn

I replaced my headlights with Hella units. The outers with a high/low hardened glass unit and the high beam inners with a long range pencil beam. This way the high beam on the outers light the general area and the pencil beam covers the far away stuff. If you have your headlights supported with...

    Gaz shocks fitting problem.

Funny you mention this. I had a replacement Gaz sent out for one of my MG's that had it stuck on hard from when I purchased it.. (Couldn't drive with my teeth together in fear of breaking them). The one they sent me wouldn't adjust at all! Their advice was to hit the adjusting knob with a...

    Gaz shocks fitting problem.

Put the shocks on yesterday and went for a short drive with them set at their softest (they seem very stiff compared to the Koni's they replaced). A lovely soft ride as expected. Had another drive set at 10 clicks (2.5 turns from softest setting) which is 2 clicks from hardest. Still a nice ride...
