    Oil pickup changes

I have an SD1 oil pump pick up now, and it has a brace on it, meant to bolt to a stud on main cap #4. Interesting part is that the P6B engines dont have any sort of brace, and neither do the later Disco 3.9 engines - have one on a stand. Anybody have any idea why the SD1 might have needed a...

Are the rear bumper irons slotted in any fashion to allow me to move the bumper more clear of the valance please? Pic says the irons are not....if they are original - they are part of local tow bar fitted. I suppose the worst it could mean is I remove the whole thing and drill new holes. thanks

    Engine dimension specs ?

In measuring the two big ends I have exposed in the 3.9L block I find a discrepancy in the manuals. In the P6B manual for crank pins I see metric specs of 50.800 to 50.812 given in inches as 2.000 to 2.0005 - using 25.4 a calculator gives 2.000472. In the later Discovery manual it gives the same...

Oil pickup clearance with sump bottom?

Can anybody who knows, or has the sump off an SD1 advise how far below the block face the oil inlet is please? This pic shows a Melling pickup is 5" below the block face. The SD1 sump I have is 5.75" deep at the pick up point, which might make for bad news if oil surges a lot. thanks

    Wiring diagram errors?

Apologies if this is old news. Looking at diagram on sheet 5 of 86.00.01 in AKM3621, for RHD Chassis D 3500, and chassis C 3500S, S2. Curious SU part - 607800

Have posted this before, but no answers. On the offside HIF6 carb there is a part shown 607800, listed as a bush for RH carb. When I carefully watch how well the RH carb spindle moves with the LH spindle there is some obvious lost motion at this bush before the spindle moves. Was wondering if...

Will an SD1 waterpump with screw-on viscous fit a P6b?

Has anybody looked at this possibility? The viscous fan on P6B has 13 blades, the hole in the radiator cowling is 460mm dia. The Fan I have (Discovery) is 435mm dia, 11 blades, but they are quite a bit wider than the P6B viscous fan.. On the viscous coupling the assembly is 70mm deep. The...

    Cam type and timing question

Getting ducks in a row before I start on my 3.9 rebuild, have some cam questions. I have heard that a 3.9 cam was a good upgrade for a 3.5, having some timing advance, but have not found any information to back that up. The original cams until at least the SD1 had timings of inlet 30BTDC-75ABDC...
