Classical Green, this sounds like a really good option. I'm not too bothered about the grain as the idea would be it would be underneath the split and therefore almost invisible (if done well enough) to anyone looking. Do you know where you got your kit from?
Hi Phil, interesting stuff, i think the problem I have is the location of the split. There isn't a great deal of 'meat' on one side which would mean there is relatively little to stick to unless I really pulled the material together which i suspect would just cause another failure along a...
Thanks quattro. I think you're right about just trying to find a match that's as close as possible. It's a shame as the rest of the seats are all in great condition and i'd like to keep it original but that's looking less and less likely.
Hi all, I have a split between the outer bolster of the seat base and the centre section which is box pleat. I recently took it to an upholsterer who said that it wasn't the seam that had failed but the ambla has split next to the seam. He said the only option was to try and find a quantity of...
Not sure about the Halfords Anti-Freeze, but I picked up some Blue anti-freeze from Eurocarparts yesterday. I know the fluid in mine is blue already as I had a leak and it was dripping on me. This is what the website says about it:
"It is suitable for any vehicle currently using Blue antifreeze...
Hi all,
I'm about to purchase a LT77 gearbox with has the prefix 'CL' and suffix 'C'. As far as I can tell this means it came out of a TR7. Whilst i'm aware that the bell housing will be incorrect for the V8 in my P6 can anyone tell me if there will be any other potential fitment issues that...
Thanks Chrisw. I know about the clearance issue with the 15s and would be rather hoping I got lucky and found my wheels arches accommodated them without having to do any 'modification'.
Really interesting reading. Do you still work in Kingston? I occasionally use mine to go into work in Norbiton and i'm based in Hawley so it would be funny to end up in a convoy with you on the M3!
Hmm, seems like there is no real 'win' here. I don't want to pay a fortune for new door seals and find that they're a complete PITA to fit and then mean the doors don't shut. I also don't really like the extreme wind noise and water leakage I have at the moment. Which is the lesser of the two...
I sense new door seals on the horizon.
@harveyp6, what do you mean by pulling the frames in? The main holes are at the bottom of the window frames where the metal 'kinks'. They're not huge holes but it would be nice to seal them all the same.
Hi all,
Whilst driving my P6 yesterday with a strong headwind at around 70 the wind noise was pretty close to terrible. I've always appreciated that the old girl is, well, old and so road noise is sort of par for the course, but it was just a bit too loud for my taste. I've also noticed that...
Probably a stupid question but can someone tell me the volume of oil that is required to go from the 'low' mark on the dip stick to the 'high' mark? I know the total oil capacity but I can't find what volume is required for going between the min and max marks.
I ask as i'm trying to work out...
Harveyp6 you are right, I have subsequently decided to update my 4 speed to an LT77. So as you say, much of this work is irrelevant now.
I did have a good read of that article and it's certainly impressive!
Looks like i've picked the right man (Colin) to convert my 's' to a LT77 box then! He's going to have a look over the car when it arrives which i'm more than a little nervous of as I don't want to end up with a list of jobs as long as my arm!
Hi all,
I'm planning on having the clutch changed on my car as a result of a noisy release bearing and a fairly high biting point. My question is actually around getting some additional work done at the same time and whether you think it should add significantly to the expense.
I'd like the...
Thanks Falkor. Rung and spoke to Pash who's given me an idea for the clutch price. Rear brakes they don't want to quote for until they've seen the state of them which I guess seems fair.
Hi all,
I'm looking for a specialist in/around the Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire boarder area. I'm base between Camberley and Farnborough and need someone to do a new clutch as well as sorting my rear brakes. Can anyone recommend anyone?
I'm familiar with Duncan Gill but his garage is in a...
I would love the original Rover roof rack but they're like hens teeth to find and when you do, seem to fetch serious money. The boot rack seemed like a way of getting something roughly period correct that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Hi all, I’m planning a long road trip to Germany in April and will no doubt have a large about of stuff.
What are people’s opinions on boot racks vs roof racks. I’ve come across some nice wooden slated boot mounted ‘racks’ and thought they looked quite nice (I don’t have the touring kit). Has...
