hello Michael, have you examined your fusebox closely? - I had the same problem with sudden power drop, - turned out to be the fusebox which had melted between two fuses.

I know the toppic is a few years old! But thanks anyway to you Vaultsman for such a precise description of how to deal with the fusebox.. I've just done exactly as you have prescribed and no smoke behind the glovebox ever since!
