    Neg or Pos Earth

all you need do is swap battery, wires on ammeter and reflash dynamo, no need to bugger around with control box, just flash field terminal to battery positve

Starter Kicking Out on cold start

If the starter has a weak bendix spring it will get thrown out the moment to engine even thinks about firing

    Safe Core plug removal

just use a hammer and punch, a swift blow close near one edge tips the core plug sideways, and pull it out with pliers. i have removed 100's like that never damaged a block

    Neg or Pos Earth

it would of been postive when new, but impossible to say now, in my experience most cars have been converted to negative earth

    Engine problems ?

ive seen red plugs from engines on teh dyno, usually from an engine burning a bit of oil

    10 bolt head upgrade

my daily driver is 3.0 turbo diesel and has 300 bhp and 480lbft, i really cant use all of the on the road but it makes a very nicer drive

    10 bolt head upgrade

i can only say what i found, but on my engine dyno i had a little over 290lbft and the clutch SD1 couldnt cope

    10 bolt head upgrade

4.6 is ideal for that, as i said ive only ever driven a 4.6 p6 as a manual, but having driven the same car as a 173bhp 3.5 then as a 4.6 using same heads cam etc, the 4.6 was just so much nicer, you could just squeeze the accelerator when doing 25 ish mph and it would just pick up and go as if...

    10 bolt head upgrade

i think how well the diff holds up will largely be down to driving style. my only experience of using a 4.6 is a P6 is that a perfectly good standard 3.5 clutch couldnt cope with the torque and would slip even with fairly gentle throttle applications

    10 bolt head upgrade

my only concern would be if the gearbox can cope with the torque. Even on SU's you it will/should generate around 300lbft

    10 bolt head upgrade

so far i have only dyno tested one totally standard P6 engine, from the power that made i dont think SD1 heads are a big leap, certainly not on a standard engine. Standard p6 exhaust manifolds look awful but for mildly tuned road cars i dont think they are that bad, as proof i would say look...

    10 bolt head upgrade

following on from comments in my recent air filter test i pulled together a quick video of tow very similar 3.5 v8's and look at the power difference between one with stock 3.5 heads and one using mildly ported 4.6 heads

    P6 air filter dyno test

when you consider the internal area of the elbows is probably 4 times that of the carbs themselves so finish inside the elbow is going to be pretty meaningless

    P6 air filter dyno test

i cant see polishing the inside of the elbows would do anything except take up your time!

    Alternator help please

It doesn’t sound like you have an issue especially it the amp meter show a bigger charge rate when you raise the rpm.

    P6 air filter dyno test

Webers and Holley make more power because the carbs themselves flow more air, but also they are fitted to more efficient intake manifolds. elbows help torque because they make the inlet tracts longer, long intakes tend to pick up low speed torque, what you have to realise is the air in an...

    Front Calipers - General Questions

most car mechanics would, although i have to say that after almost 40 years in the motortrade no one has ever explained to me how copper grease on the back of pads is supposed to help i might just add that no car comes from the manufacturer with grease on the back of the pads. Also that the...

    Change tyre size

Confused here! i have only been selling and fitting tyres for 30 years but to my knowledge with the exception of a few transit sized commercial tyres, theres no such thing as a 75 profile!

    P6 air filter dyno test

Air temp does make a difference to power, but its not massive, in any case testing conditions were the same for all sets of tests they were all done on the same day, same coolant and oil temps. oil temp in particular makes a bigger difference to power than most would expect.

    P6 air filter dyno test

the engine in this airbox test had SD1 heads, so the difference would be moving between SD1 heads and 10 bolt. i guess that could be another video sometime! just to muddy the water more, i ran up a rebuilt but totally standard P6 engine, it didnt have the same top end urge, but noticeably...

    P6 air filter dyno test

yes, no, maybe! the thing is if you measure flywheel power you are dealing with far less variables

    P6 air filter dyno test

no i havnt. but i did run up another engine 3.5 engine on the same exhaust system, which used a similar cam, same Compression ratio, go fast filters in a P6 air box, with a lightly tickled intake manifold and mildly ported 4.6 heads, that engine made a couple of BHP more than this engine made...

    P6 air filter dyno test

thats a strange comment, i quote flywheel power like every single car manufacturer. Plenty of car manufactures change engine spec and power by a lot less than 11 bhp. on the basis of what you said it was pointless Rover adopting bigger bore exhaust manifolds on an S or bigger bore systems on...
