    Fuel supply socket on HIF6

on my lh carb (the one with the first fuel line connection) around the socket pipe there is a small leak. Does anyone know, how this socket is fixed ? Pressed in ? I cannot find any spare socket on the Burlen side, so I am not sure if this part is considered to be "servicable".

    40D engine, weak points ?

a guy offered me a RV8, doesn´t know anything about it. Guided him to make photo from the engine code. It´s a "rare" 4.2 ltr engine with 8.94:1 CR. Do not need a new engine, but would be a "parallel" long-term project building up an engine with a little bit more cui. Is the 4.2 ltr an engine...

    Rear caliper bleeding

not sure, if I like the rear brake system... Former owner spent a lot of money for overhauling the brake system (new booster, one rear caliper new, one overhauled, all the handbrake levers new, etc) but I had to change the main brake cylinder. So, I looked for the bleed nipple on the rear side...

    First start, very hot....

ok, after the top end rebuilt everything ready this afternoon. Static ignition timing to TDC, new Hüco fuel pump (very quiet !) fills the carbs. Choke, starting and after 3 or 4 secs kawoum, perfect running. Oil pressure goes up to nearly end of scale. Running in the cam at 2000 rpm. So far so...

Help for fuel pump relay wiring

Ok, my Spal fan is working now, with thermo switch and manual override switch :) For the fuel pump I have a relay with the following terminals : 30 power supply fused = ok, that´s clear. 31 negative = ok, that´s clear. 87 & 87b = bridged and wired to the fuel pump, that´s clear. 50 = starter =...

    Live feed wanted !

Currently installing an electric fan and electric fuel pump, both via relays. Ok, both relays require a + connection. I am not the electric hero, so where`s the best to get a live feed for these two relays ? On the inner wing rh side (it is a lh car) there is a relay (6R.. or so) with a live...

    Throttle linkage, alternative ?

the P6 is really a well designed car, but the throttle linkage looks like it was done after a long hard christmas meeting of the Rover engineers.... It´s not easy to adjust the kickdown cable with the "flex" in the plastic connector. Rubber bushes new, plastic connector new. Is there any...

    Marks on distributor ?

Want to reinstall the distributor means reinstall at TDC and looked for some marks for the "finger" showing on cyl 1 position. Did not see anything on the distributor or the rotor cap ?? Am I blind ? Any information for a good position of the engine for refitting the dizzy is welcome. Thanks for it.

    Refitting Crank Pulley

The crank pulley bolt should get 270 Nm  I´ve taken it off with my air-operated rattle gun. Heads are still not refitted, so I could block piston 1 (have made a simple steel bar to block cyl.1 and find TDC) and rattle again.... Advisable or too tough ?

Tappet preload with dry lifters ?

I´ve gone through several threads already, but it´s not real clear to me. Do I have to check and set preload with dry lifters or with already (oil)filled lifters ??

    How can I identify a 3.9 cam ?

Bought a new 3.9 cam last year (private sale) from a guy who stopped work on his Landrover project. I am on the way to complete now everything togehter with overhauled heads etc. I can see no real sign or anything else on the cam, beside a small "LR" (it has a number on one end, I must look for...

    HIF6, throttle spring, choke lever

have given away the carbs for mild blast cleaning and then have taken them aparat and refitted with a Burlen service kit. On the carb you can see on the photo, the spring tensioner for the main throttle shaft looks a little bit "unsafe" (did not make a photo here before) and the large spring end...

    V8, shims beside each rocker

have read about an MGB V8 overhauling. The guy used used small steel shims (0,02 mm) on the rocker shaft, lh and rh to each rocker in order to have a better contact (or, let´s say reduced friction) between springs and rockers or rocker pedestals and rockers. The idea was not to modify valve...

    Rallye Rover P6

Interesting guy and interesting site for those, who want to modify their Rover.... There are also good action videos available. Ok, language is a little bit strange ;) but the country is really nice and the classic scene is a very nice one. Aaaand, congratulations for the Netherland´s...

    The right valve seal ?

Just finishing my ERC0216 heads (SD1, RR...). Bought them with new valve stem seals, you can see them in the photos. But, as the heads were sold as "overhauled by a specialist in the UK" and were in terrible condition, I´m not sure, if these seals are correct as the valve guides do not have a...

P6 with Vitesse wheels, which wheel nuts ?

Had luck to get a set of Vitesse wheels here, a "barn-find" :) I have seen threads for the right nuts, but as for the different SD1 wheels, I´m not sure, if the nuts displayed here are correct or will centre the Vitesse wheels correctly. By the way, one hub-cap is missing, does anyone have one ?

    HIF6 carbs needle advice, please

first of all a real peaceful 2017 for all.. I think, I have to re-jet  my HIF6 carbs, when I have finished the work on my engine. It´s the standard 3.5 ltr engine and I have changed now the following components : SD1 heads, ports enlarged, standard valves. Will skim them by 0,5-0,6 mm...

    Different manifolds

Hi, I had to replace my original inlet manifold with another 2nd hand one. Stamp is 1979, so maybe from a Range or SD1. On the carb tower the "new"manifold has two connections, one tube-socket, one threaded socket. The original manifold has only one connection, a tube-socket. I think, the...

SD1 heads, alternative valves and valve springs

Are there after-market valves and springs available for the ERC0216 / SD1 heads ? The original ones are really expensive, but I do not know, if the after market parts do have a proper quality. At the moment I´m polishing the old valves, but they still have pitting. The valve springs I must...

What is worth modifying on the inlet manifold ?

Just working on my SD1 heads, which means enlarging resp. smoothing the ports, not too much, just "smooth". Yesterday I have dismantled the HIF carbs, everything ok, but will use the SU service packs. The adapters (at the carbs) for the ellbows have a terrible "design" inside and the gasket...

    Oil pump upgrade, gears blocked

Have fitted my upgrade kit with the spacer plate and the SD1 gears, which is well known in this forum. Followed the manual, first found out, it did not work with the two small holes to be drilled, which should be done on a good stationary drilling machine and not by hand . Even a minor...

New head studs ? Increasing compression ratio

Hi, Just sorting out all parts, that I will need to re-build my heads to the engine. I will give away my SD1 heads for skimming, but not really sure, what to skim to slightly increase CR. I plan to use tin type gaskets again. At the moment I plan to reduce by 0,6 mm (20 thou inch is 0,508 mm)...

    Rockers and rocker shafts

it´s me again... Today took off one of the rockers from the shaft and it did not look good o_O (the rocker...). Ok, have to dismantle the shaft assembly completely, but due to the law of statistics, I expect more. Prices of rockers and shafts are really in a huge range offered, oh oh. Actually...
