    BW35 pipe in sump

Hi all, after removing the gearbox sump to replace the leaky gasket I discovered a loose pipe in the pan - hopefully pics attached. I don't think it came off when removing the sump. It's obvious where the pipe lives and having offered it up it is staying in place but I'm obviously concerned it...

    Electrical gremlins - S2 V8

Hi all, I've recently bought a '72 V8 that's been off the road for over 10 years and have a couple of electrical niggles: - The o/s sidelight is not working despite the bulb and earth being fine. I've checked the fusebox and both red and black wires are getting 12v. On dismantling the light...

    Wings for sale

I have a full set of mismatched wings in very average condition - will need a respray etc. Keen to get rid of them so they can be had at a nominal price. I'm in Aberdeenshire. 07818038455. Thanks

    Exhaust box removal

The middle can of my 3 can exhaust is in pretty poor condition. Is it a good or a bad idea to replace this with a straight-through pipe? I've heard the standard setup is quite restrictive but I won't want to the car to sound antisocial or else just crap. Am I right say that because a. Rover...

    rear noises

My 2000TC has developed a clonk a creaking and a clang from I think the n/s rear but only when pulling off, sometimes when braking, and most notably when turning. I'm guessing it's a UJ or two but what's the best process of identifying the culprit? If it isn't a UJ I guess it's a diff and I've...

    RVI Tacho not working

My tacho has given up recently. The wiring diagram in the manual indicates a feed from the +ve coil, and it must be tapped into the wire that is connected to my coil and disappears into a rat's maze of inaccessible wiring in the bulkhead. Which connection does this go to on the tacho? I have...

    Tacho and ignition

Hi Folks, I have recently upgraded my old electronic ignition module to a new high energy powerspark unit (with the correct low resistance coil) and a mile down the road the car died and wouldn't start. My Tacho, which I think is the RVI type, failed at about the same time. I have put the old...

    HS8 Jet Size

Hi folks, I've recently discovered I have AAA needles in my HS8s which are from H4 carbs. I therefore also must have .09'' jets. Is it the .1'' or .125'' jets for the HS8? I believe the standard needle for a 2000TC is UM, but this is available for both jet sizes. Cheers

    Needle choice

All, I have gone antisocial and fitted ram pipes to my HS8s. Naturally I now need richer needles from my current AAA. However, Minty Lambs' compare-o-rama (http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/) lists this needle as 0.09'' and for HS4 and HS2s. Further, I was hitherto under the impression that...

Vale timing and clearances - symptoms

Hi guys, I have just adjusted the valve timing on my 2000TC which was a bit off. I'd hoped this would be the panacea to the car's serious lack of power and chugging engine note but it has made little difference. I've checked the clearances and they are a fair bit off, and yet she idles nicely...

    2000 TC advance curve

Hello Folks, Does anyone have the advance curve figures for a 2000 TC? I have opted to get an Accuspark Stealth Black Box in order to get a repeatable curve and also as something to tinker and experiment with. I am regretting not getting the Aldon Amethyst unit as this also has mappable vacuum...

    Ignition timing and distributor position

Hello all. Apologies in advance for the questions to come which are probably amateur to you all. I have a 2000TC and I can't seem to get the timing right, I've set it up using a strobe on number 1 HT lead (closest to radiator) at 6BTDC as per Mr Haynes, but the car's running like a hound - idles...

2000 TC Intake manifold - please help!

Hi folks, I took my intake manifold off and forgot to drain the coolant. Upon starting there was loads of smoke and the oil has turned creamy. At first I assumed there was a carb valve/float level issue and it was petrol in the oil and coming out a spark plug hole. Is it likely enough water got...

HS8 float level - engine flooded!

Hi all. I recently switched cards with a spare set I have and on start up billows of smoke pumped out and petrol started to come out number 1 spark plug hole (which wasn't tightened properly, thankfully). I took the float chamber lid off the old set of carbs and the problem persists. Petrol has...

    2000TC ignition timing for non-UK 9:1

Hi all, I have a 2000TC export model with 9:1 compression. I have fitted elec ignition and using 99 octane (super + valvemaster plus) the book's 6BTDC doesn't feel quite right. I have advanced to 8 but wondered if anyone had any thoughts here?

2000 TC air filter - best option?

Hi folks, I'm new to the forum, and to P6 ownership. Does anyone has experience of fitting pancake filters to the 2000TC? I've done similar with my Dolomite and, with richer needles, the difference was quite marked. I have only found cheap chrome pancakes on Burlen for the HS8 and these seem...
