    Finally a tidy 3500S!

Thanks guys. I'm assuming I'm calling it a spacer but that what I need to replace is the thrust collar on each output shaft. Correct me someone if I'm wrong! :)

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

I haven't touched the car since January last year, which gives me a sinking feeling. But that's how it's been, and I hope to spend a few days with it this spring, get it MOT-ed and such. The fragments in the old steering box that came out were from a failed input bearing cage. The chap that...

Icelert kit and boot mount parts in Norway

Since posting this, I ended up taking over the parts. The boot mount parts have sold, but I have the Icelert parts that I won't use. Any offer considered plus postage to your location (from Norway).

    P6 Pinion and rack PAS

I have a retro-fitted original PAS setup in my LHD V8 and, having owned three manual-steering V8s previously, I can say it's a huge difference. I love a quick-rack steering setup (such as the Active Steering on my BMW), and the Rover sort-of has that. It also has just enough assist to feel...

    Hi from Sweden.

Velkommen! My V8 spent15 years in Sweden before making its way across the border to Oslo, then to me in 2010. All the best with your restoration efforts! Tor

V8 resonator (back box) in stainless?

Hi all, My exhaust is a stainless 2.5" set I purchased ten years ago, I believe through Ian Wilson. I've been happy with it but it is quite restrained sound-wise, as the rear box also looks to be a traditional muffler. It has a pleasant enough note, but little of the bass-filled music I would...

Product experience - W.M. Penn "Valve Ease"

Thanks for this. Alan writes back that he has checked and cleaned the lifters twice, checked rocker shafts and rockers for cleanliness and pushrods for condition of ends and lengths. The noise still seems to subside somewhat during use but it doesn’t go away. He will put Valve Ease in the fuel...

Product experience - W.M. Penn "Valve Ease"

My South African V8 has developed what feels and sounds like a sticky valve, or something to that effect, having stood unused for fairly long periods of time. For this reason I am quite sure long-term engine wear is not the case, but the engine's history is undocumented and there's a Crane...

    Hello from Sweden

Great to see your modifications, P-G, and the seats definitely don't look out of place! My car came from (the U.K. first, via) Sweden for half of its life before Norway around 1990 when it was (rather badly) converted to LHD and PAS.

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

Last week I replaced the steering gear with the unit Joseph sent me, and I now have full throw both ways. My friend took the old unit home and cracked it open. He reports finding two bits of metal in the "hydraulic cylinder" that inhibited the piston from full operation. Removing them he...

    Replacement aftermarket headlights

I'm happy with my Hellas, giving enough lumen and a nice pattern. They do have flat lenses but I've never thought about it since they're shrouded on my S2.

Wiper delay not working, how to solve?

Mine wasn't working at all and it turned out to be a defective control valve. Replaced it - works again. But I also revitalised the whole system, including fitting a replacement piece of (quality car wash) sponge in the delay governor. Now I have 0-30 seconds of delay at my fingertips.

    Conversion to Electronic Ignition

I’ve tried the Accuspark and it failed once at running temperature. It would fire up again every day only to die when warm. I eventually fitted a Pertronix Ignitor module with FlameThrower coil (to two V8s) and they just work, 10 years hence. I’m assuming they’re available for 4-cyl cars.

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

Keeping in mind that this is a very-high cost economy, he’s working from home and I doubt there’d ever be a receipt. A good body shop would put me well north of £10k easily. There are times I wish I lived in the U.K. I’m glad someone caught on to Crème Eggs though, available down the road...

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

Rather than trying to rebuild the steering gear myself, not having any special tools for pulling or pressing, or time, I've been in touch with Joseph Wilson who had a rebuilt LHD gear from his dad's stock. This will be shipped to Geoff at Wins to be added to a shipment of bits from him, and sent...

    What's your longest trip in a P6?

Inspired by Quagmire's trip to the Dales, I recall my winter-holiday journey in my first P6B in 1998 with two friends while studying in Cape Town. It's a bit far-out looking back at it. It's a whole other situation in SA. Distances are massive but roads are fabulous if dangerous at times. We...

Out of nowhere, these popped up nearby. For the princely sum of £90 :D they came home with me. Who would have thunk.

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

I’ve been trying to think about it - if it is, shouldn’t the throw to the right be bigger than it is? It’s still limited internally and the drop arms don’t reach the stop bolts on the firewall.

    Finally a tidy 3500S!

Hi all, So I managed a couple of hours with the Rover today, first time since July. Found out the steering gear is at fault. With track and side rods off I could still only get 1.5 turns left, 1.75 right. Bless it all. Since it’s also quite leaky I’ll see if I can find one of the NOS ones I...
