Exhaust manifold hole on 2200 TC?

Yes, that's it Brian. When the box is in situ the bracket on the right is pretty well vertical, so the holes you refer to on the left must be tucked away underneath. Many thanks, that'll teach me to use a mirror and look more carefully in future .

Exhaust manifold hole on 2200 TC?

Yes, I know what you mean. Mine's been welded a couple of times down there and is more weld than metal! The noise, which I think is coming from the top of one of the front cylinder pipes is a distinct chuffing, like an old steam train, which makes me think it's just from one cylinder pipe, but I...

Exhaust manifold hole on 2200 TC?

For the past few weeks I've been hearing a "chuffing" noise from the front of the engine on my 1974 2200 TC. It's most noticeable at tickover, and speeds up with revs and has been getting slightly louder over time. It sounds like a typical blown exhaust sort of noise and I seem to remember...

    2200 TC sooty plug

Yes, all done by the book. The gauge moved up in pulses over about 6 or 7 seconds until it stabilized at 30/35. I didn't do a wet test. The next step I think will be to go to my local garage which specialises in classics, and get a second opinion.

    2200 TC sooty plug

Did a compression test yesterday and the good news is the figures are all within 5 psi. The bad news is the range is 30 to 35 psi.........!! Used jump leads from my daily drive, which I know has a good battery, to ensure consistent starter speed over the test, so assumed a problem with the...

    2200 TC sooty plug

Thanks I'll try those suggestions and dust off my compression tester and wallet..........

    2200 TC sooty plug

Yes I have one and I'll do a check. Are you thinking no.1 cylinder is pulling in extra air from somewhere else as well as through the carb and is actually running lean rather than 2 being rich?

    2200 TC sooty plug

My 2200 TC doesn't do many miles nowadays but, after a 30 mile run to clear the cobwebs, during which I noticed slight misfiring under acceleration when warming up, I took the plugs out to check their condition. To my surprise, 1, 3 and 4 were the expected colour, but 2 was very sooty...

    Difficulty warm starting 2200TC

Just got round to checking out the electrics and there was certainly no increase in voltage at the coil during starting. Checked for a 12V outut at the starter solenoid and nothing. Took the starter off and bench tested the solenoid by removing it and manually operating the armature. The main...

    Difficulty warm starting 2200TC

Yes, the heat shield is in place and the problem has only occurred 3 times and only over the last 6 months. I don't have enough data to say whether the temperature is an influence, but I've made a mental note to myself to start by hand priming the carbs if it happens again. In the meantime I'm...

    Difficulty warm starting 2200TC

Hi, I've got the opposite problem to an earlier thread about cold starting. My 2200TC stands outside and is used very irregularly. However, even after standing for 2 or 3 weeks it always starts cleanly on full choke after 3 or 4 turns of the key and runs smoothly. Over the last six months or...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Thanks for that roundup Nick. I also have to accept now that the car is technically uninsured. It's currently on a multicar classic policy but, as I said early in the post, I got it on an impulse as a restoration project and won't be running it for another year or so, until I've finished my...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Today's developments have been fascinating. From knowing nothing about the car it's now acquiring a (slightly murky) history. If it had been a 4 year old ringer instead of a 40 (sorry, 36) and I'd paid mega bucks for it I would have been seriously concerned. But this background is all part of...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Taken all-in-all at this stage, I'm inclined to think that I have an as-built 2200TC. If it has the original engine, then Nick's info pins down its real age pretty accurately. The V5 says it was registered 1/8/71 so, presumably at some stage after the government abandoned the rolling 25 year...

    Have I really got a 2000?

This is fascinating. Thanks Nick, you've certainly made a prima facie case for it being a '74ish car. I'll have a good look later for any other numbers, but I can confirm there's plenty of paint slopped around the areas where you suggest I look. I'm happy to accept now that it has been made to...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Many thanks Chris. Wow, this car gets more interesting by the minute!! Yes, I've found the chassis number and it does tally with the V5 so if my interpetation of the first 3 numbers is correct and nothing has been switched, then it started life as a 2000SC. Can anyone confirm that its current...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Many thanks for the welcomes and replies guys. This is my first Rover so I have a lot to learn about it yet. I've posted some pix and as you can see its green - which shade of green is another matter......!!! It's had a sort of professional respray on the bits you can see, but its been brush...

    Have I really got a 2000?

Hi all, I've just bought a 71 2000TC as a minor restoration project. Basically it's in pretty good shape all round but has been badly neglected over the years. It hasn't got any history and I haven't yet done any research on the engine number, but one thing puzzles me that you might have a ready...
