Getting the spring in is a little tricky. I've worked the handbrake lever and the piston moves out slowly. Wind it back in and repeat. Once I'd worked out that the inner cup of the piston rotates anticlockwise as the rachet wheel turns, the rest is rather straightforward.
However...
I purchased an 80mm cap off of eBay for £5 and modified it to fit my gunsons eezibleed. You only need to drill a hole in the centre of the cap. Think it's girling.
I stopped using the kits to push the fluid through using a spare tyre. I find it so simple to use my pela pump. (Oil extractor)...
I've had a bit of time away from the car to have a think. I remember about 6 months ago that I'd stumbled across a pair of rear calipers for these wonderful cars. They were heavily corroded and probably seized. So into a bucket of white vinegar they went. Fast forward 2 weeks.
If I remember...
I have a brand new set sitting in the box under the window in the hall. It's been opened to check the contents and looks really good quality. I went for the middle option of the 3. I'll get around to fitting it at some point.
If need, I have a spare V8 diff sitting on my garage floor. I was going to scrap it as I've kicked it a few times but I'll delay that decision for a while.
I wouldn't disagree with you. 1st time I've seen or worked on anything P6 related. Not happy I've been beaten. I'm lost with this. If I took the whole lot off the car and dismantled it all to see how these calipers work, I'd have a better understanding. But I'm not doing that.
Fancy one last...
Today I tried to sort the handbrake but its more or less beaten me. Crawled underneath again and found some slack in the cable. Both quadrants are on their stops with the brakes off. Those 2 x 9/16 nuts are seized and you all know access isn't easy. Not much I can do to be honest. I will have to...
yesterday was spent crawling around the floor along with my current bad back. Getting older (as we all do) and it takes longer for these things to even out.
I managed to refit the new pads and the "recycled" rear discs. They looked rather good i'd say. Followed Harveys advice and was rather...
Stopped at the M5 services yesterday when passing through and saw this on the wall inside the services. I'd like this print for my man cave. Where can I buy it?
Thanks Harvey. I think I know now. Another baffling thing is the new pads are tapered. Am I right in thinking this is because of the caliper angle? I presume they will wear evenly to some extent.
Today I've removed the rear discs and pads. Not sure where the difficulty of this task comes from as I've heard stories over the years from people who wouldn't do this job, saying it was a headache.
Question I have is rewinding the pistons. I know they need to be turned clockwise and they...
Very kind words. I didn't set out to do all of what I have so far. I've spent some time getting to this point. But doing it all once means I should enjoy driving it whilst it's in my ownership.
Little free time today so I removed the rear drive hafts. Going to give them a look and then a lick of paint. The rear elbows are in good condition and only need a bit of paint. Too cold for painting at the moment so when the sun comes out....
That's a valid point. I didn't give that a thought. I've used stainless bolts on my other classic in the same situation and have had no issues in the last 5 years. I'd say that if you were looking at a single bolt of that size (5/16 or M8) then maybe but with 4 bolts sharing the 'load' as they...
All back together again. Relatively easy enough to refit the springs and get the bottom arm bolts in.
I've used stainless bolts to avoid corrosion. Although I think replacing the front and rear suspension may not need replacing during my custody again!
Changed diff oil. Looks like that...
