    Rear door handle.

If you remove the button (clip inside - so the inner panel has to come off) then take it apart & fully clean & lubricate, it will be fine. I did the same on a push button recently. Please see my post under the “Hazel” thread. "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

    fuel vaporisation

“Hazel” (series 1 V8) got to the point where it would splutter to a halt everywhere & in any weather. Clearing the pipe as mentioned helped tremendously but a good carb service & then tuning the engine absolutely ‘per the book’ not only stopped the spluttering but transformed the car!

    Classic motorbikes

Thank you all for your posts :) I think this is what I'm thinking. As some of you will know, I became an Alfa owner a couple of years ago to scratch a 40 year old itch & whilst it's still tatty & not quite set up properly (currently at a mate's garage for accurate tracking) I'm very glad I...

Wow - that oil pick up gauze looks so caked up that it wouldn't actual pick much oil up

    Classic motorbikes

Wow - a lot of information here - thank you guys! I'm a little wary about having 'the cart before the horse' & wonder if I should get a 50cc bike in the first instance, just to establish whether I like the idea & to give me some practical experience of riding a bike before I look at doing the...

    Best Wishes!

Indeed! Have a great Christmas everyone & best wishes for 2024 :)

Excellent! Make sure you replace the glass 'buffer' that's meant to be on the pad in the middle. The pad is the same as the one on the top inside door plate, but you can put some foam on instead. It just stops the glass clattering when you close the door.... ;) - see my post #331 on this thread...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

The other MOT fail point on Hazel was very minor in terms of repair work required, although I suppose the issue itself could be serious. I've been putting up with a driver's door push button that's been sticky for a number of years, gradually getting to the point that I sometimes had to use the...

I have had a look & can't find any numbers on them, but tbh they're a bit difficult to see now I fitted them.

    Classic motorbikes

I did mention "60s, but would go to 70s. That picture is what I have in my mind :) I do not have an unlimited bike licence & would have to learn & pass the test. I'm retiring soon, so it's something new I could get to grips with. I've only ever been a motorbike passenger before, but was...

    Classic motorbikes

    :D I've seen that before - unfortunately I've been watching "Shed & Buried" & other middle-aged men's (& women's) programmes :LOL::LOL:

    Classic motorbikes

I've been a bit of a closet classic bike fan for a number of years now (never told my wife, though ;)) & wondered what you guys would suggest as a good starting point? I'm interested in preferably a British bike from the '60s with an engine that's not overstretched, although I'm not intending...

    Holy s***! What a difference - well done :)

    Hi from Wigan

That's interesting - I suppose there would be plenty of unused registrations from around here, back in the day. It's not a major conurbation or similar. The handbrake may indicate that a refurbishment of the back brakes is on the cards. It can be done without swearing (& relatively cheaply)...

    OCC 469 - restoring & running a "sharkstooth" 2000

Thanks Nick, & it was indeed great to see you too. Paint's a bit of a dilemma I think on restorations. It's THE thing that everyone sees so it needs to be good to show the resto off, but if you've done everything otherwise yourself, someone else's paint takes the glory, if you see what I mean...

I must say that mine have always been generally good ;)

    Hi from Wigan

Looks like it was originally an East Riding of Yorkshire car (RH) - so from my neck of the woods :) 2200TCs are well-respected & are pretty quick cars. Yours looks to be a nice example.

Likewise, Alan :) & thank you. The car needs improvement in a few areas, but I'll enjoy doing it over the coming years.

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

I think it was these, from "Roverpart" in London, although my ebay purchase history says 'similar item' :hmm: At the time I queried which were the right ones for a V8 & I think they're a little broader than the 4cyl ones. They work fine, whatever they are, although I don't tend to drive the...

    Get an MOT done!

I know that despite the exemption many of us still get our 40+ year old classics to an MOT tester each year, but can I urge ALL owners to do this? I recently took Hazel (my series 1 V8) for its MOT and came away with the fail as shown: This defect was not detectable by me, even though I keep...

    OCC 469 - restoring & running a "sharkstooth" 2000

I can't believe it's so long since I posted something about OCC. I was asked to take it to the NEC to go on the P6 Club stand with the other early cars for the 60th anniversary of the P6's launch. They had a "sharkstooth" car in each launch colour, plus chassis 100, one of the 2 gold 1963 motor...

    Bop-Bop-Bop...

It's been a while since I posted but I have been quite busy with other things. However, I haven't forgotten the P6s & they have just kept plodding on with no particular issues, although Hazel's brakes are being rebuilt at the moment (see other thread). So just another picture of BOP to be going...

    Rodger’s rear end

Yes - it's always great to have sorted a problem & to also understand how things work! Your brakes should be much better now Paul, because the regular application of the (unseized) handbrake should take up any slack on the pads as they wear

My boot lid won't stay up.....

Even with the correct torsion bars, many boot lids struggle to stay up. Of course the bars have had a long life mostly in the closed position. If you’re not too bothered about originally a simple trick is to remove the lid lining as its weight is often enough to make the lid drop & it may stay...
