    P6B S Project Car

Good idea to check your plugs in the near future - you may see a leaner mixture with the larger snorkel and air volume. Out of interest, is your cold feed inlet near the radiator or away from it - sucking in warm air may negate the benefits of the larger air volume. I had a similar set up as...

    Electric Fans

I fitted a large Kenlow fan to my 3.9 - I think the biggest they offer. Its often used by the off-road Landrover guys who need a high spec fan when driving through mud and puddles, but remain at low speeds. The fan shroud is so deep, that I had to move the radiator forward about 1 1/2 inches...

Indeed. There is a good discussion on the merits of this and the OEM spec canister amongst other related isdues in the thread ‘ Lucky Breathes easy ‘, Chrisyork.

    1972 P6 V8 - The Lush

The SD1 cannister has a significantly larger intake diameter, as a consequence of the cold and warm air intake options, permitted by the SD1 set-up. SydneyRoverP6B has a good picture of it when used on a standard P6 engine. I used to use the same spec cannister. @ SydneyRoverP6B, I trust you...

    1972 P6 V8 - The Lush

Out of interest, are you using the SD1 air filter cannister. Not sure from looking at your previous posts. As you know, this will provide increased air intake volume - as it happens, I have listed one for sale on this site , with integral high flow conical filters included. I used this on my...

    Throttle coupling replacement

    Throttle coupling replacement

yep - as you say decades - I guess the idea was that they should need to work for a few years. I'm also finding similar things now failing after multiple decades, eg things with spring clips, plastic light fittings, even the alternator mounting arm failed in a classic fatigue crack only last...

    Throttle coupling replacement

Nice idea - that shape would work well for 3D printing. I would hope 3D print resin is Ok for the temp extremes it has to work it - hot engine or freezing cold days .. For my case, I pumped the pedal a couple of times before starting on a cold day and snap - split down the middle ..

    Throttle coupling replacement

The throttle coupling failed on me this week. Second time in near 30 years of having the car, but as usual at a bad time. FYI, I bought a replacement from Wins and noticed that Geoff now has a batch made in US and notably more robust than the OEM dimensions and a different resin material. I...

    Spitfire Multispark... any good??

@ Armos - thank you for the interesting discussion. If it works on our 4 cyl and V8 engines, great - I do not see any problems or risks with it. It is interesting to see the variation in the prices for the same unit here in the UK (eg E*bay), same supplier.

    Spitfire Multispark... any good??

Well indeed yes, but any cheap gains on fuel economy must be a plus. Always interested to hear how your box of magic performed. Do you see any significant fuel economy or more significant power, or both !

    Spitfire Multispark... any good??

I guess the MSD module is the proven track and performance approach. But even if it the Spitfire unit shows to be limited to improving efficiency for just low rev town driving, that can be a cheap plus. My P6 as more of a daily driver than before, is becoming irritatingly expensive to run ..

    Spot the (not) difference

    Live feed with ignition off

Thanks Peter, this discussion and illustration is most useful and hopefully also of interest to others on the site. Given the feed to the LED is live all the time, even with a relay do you advise using a fuse (1 amp) to protect the thin LED wires. Thanks

    Live feed with ignition off

Thanks guys. the relay is a certainly a safe option as are fuses in the wires to the LED. Thinking about it, there are some options.. You could wire the LED to the ignition switch, one side where the battery power comes to the switch, and the other side to any load that is disconnected by the...

    Live feed with ignition off

Hello - quick question please, given your experience in this area. I'm looking for a 12V feed when the ignition is off, and off when the ignition is on. I would like to fit a security device (flasher system) which is powered when the car is parked, i.e. with ignition-off, Can you advise on an...
