    Massive bang, now no drive...

Thanks. I'll find a stronger magnet tomorrow & give it a go. I've already tried with a magnetic pickup tool. Not strong enough...

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Colin, when you repaired yours, how did you get the broken end out of the diff? I'm struggling with mine. The splined end of the broken shaft is still in place.

Cheers Clive, I'll let you know how I get on.. I may take you up on it. At least I know what I'm going to be doing on my next set of rest days... Tony

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Good point. What about repair options? New halfshaft(s) or just chuck a good 2nd hand diff in?

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Thanks Clive. Sounds like I'm gonna be busy! Will the disc come out if I remove the outer brake pad? Save me mucking about with the calipers too much?

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Sorry Clive, when you say diff halfshafts, do you mean internally in the diff housing, e.g. the bit the brake discs and rear drive shafts bolt onto? Can these be changed without dropping the diff?

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Diff halfshafts seem fine, and the handbrake's holding the car. Prop shaft spins but there's nothing coming out of the diff... I won't know fully til I get into it. Just hope I can fix it before Silverstone Classic...

    Massive bang, now no drive...

Hi All, I was reversing my car out of the garage this morning to do some work on the front end, and just afterI started moving, there was an almighty bang from under the car, and a horrible grinding noise which changed with engine rpm. Turned everything off & looked under the car, all the...

Another year of trouble free motoring...

The old girl passed her MOT again today. The list of advisories is on the up though, so some winter work needed. Not too bad, mostly rubber bushes & a slightly perished tyre. Easy fixes...

Facet silver top fuel pump - fuel pipe alterations

I was thinking of fitting a facet pump at the rear on the reserve line. I had some kind of plan to retain the mechanical pump, and switch to the electric if vapour lock occurred. I was wondering that, as I assume there is a switch on the choke cable to activate the choke warning circuit, maybe I...

    Di-Dion Tube oil

As Pilkie says, use a greased one. I obtained a greased one as part of my refurb, as I needed replacement de dion elbows. I got a really good de-dion setup from a later car, and have never regretted it. But its just as easy to grease up an oil type one. The de dion gaiters seem to last longer...

    Dash pot lid/damper

Several times now after a run I've noticed that one of my hs6 dash pot dampers has come unscrewed and ends up sticking out the top of the cover by a couple of inches. It screws down tight again, but ends up undone again over time. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Tacho

I converted mine in about an hour. Easy Peasy. The worst bit was routing the extra wire. There's a link HERE.

    Thinking of selling...

Hi All, I've been vaguely thinking about selling my P6, as I really don't use it as much as I should. It does go out most weeks, but trying to keep 4 cars on the road with a single income is proving a bit costly. The weird thing is, I hadn't done anything about it at all, only in my head, and...

    Silverstone Classic 25-27th July

Is the club planning on doing this again next year? I'd definitely be up for it! Its just that onsite accommodation sells out really quickly! I'd quite like to stay onsite next time! :D

    Its True!

I've also noticed that when I started using my V8 after a 5 year layup, I could barely reach 60mph. She now quite happily cruises all day long at much higher ( legal) speeds... :)

    New car...

I concur! Great with the top down. Love the way it pulls away off the line. And the way you can throw it into a corner faster than you'd normally dare. :D

    New car...

Just like mine! Lovely motor's. The K series is much maligned, but keep an eye on the cooling system, and you should be ok. The long cooling pipes from the rad corrode from the inside out, and stainless steel ones are available, so that's a good idea to replace them. I've also heard its a good...

    Snake oil?? :-)

With my car's propensity to not start very easily when warm, I thought I might try some of this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY1YndLmbXQ What do you reckon, snake oil...? :D :D

Unable to start between cold & warm

That makes sense. I've checked the choke linkage, and it doesn't seem to be sticking, the jets return to the correct position when the choke is pushed in. The fuel pump is the original mechanical type, although it was rebuilt a couple of years ago, but wouldn't have thought it would cause too...

Unable to start between cold & warm

Cheers guys. I'll check the choke linkage especially when I have also noticed that if the car is left ticking over it runs slower & slower until it stops. Also points to rich mixture at tick over. I'll also have a look at the thread on setting g up the carbs cos apart from cleaning the dash...

Unable to start between cold & warm

After the trilas & tribulations of getting my car through its MOT, I went to the garage to fill up with fuel last night. It wasn't especially low, and I hadn't pulled the reserve. After I filled up, the engine wouldn't start, wouldn't even fire. The garage is about 2 miles from my house, and...

    MOT day blues

I usually get problems with dodgy fuse contacts on MOT day. Windscreen wipers wouldn't work one year, just touched the fuse, and they sprang into life.
