    Hello from Brisbane, Australia

Hi Glen if you’re unable to find a pump reconditioner in Brisbane, I would certainly recommend Autocooling in Clayton Victoria. They did a beautiful job of reconditioning a viscous water pump for me about six months ago. Cost $245 by memory. 03 9563 4811, talk to Michael, though obviously the...

What a superb job you have done on the upholstery?

    3500s risky proposition?

Don’t know if you have had a look at the for sale listings on the RCCA website. There are usually a couple of P6Bs. Don’t know if it is still around but there was a 2 owner blue car in Tassie which seemed reasonable and quite well priced.

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

Hi Peter ZRH "Are you really going to get enough power for aircon? I always thought it was in the order of 3kW". Just checked the “Product Parameters” on the installation instructions:= Rated Power (W) 792 W.

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

Hi Demetris As I indicated in the edit to my original response to you, closing the face level vent out lets, and the centre console outlet, causes the airflow to go to the knee/floor level vents (but these cannot be closed) Illustration of my replacement for the scuttle air intake attached...

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

mine is a simple cock with a 90°, on off movement, which I installed in one of the heater hoses.

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

Certainly wasn’t original equipment, but something I installed into the original heater system many decades ago because it tended to bleed hot air into the system in summer.

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

When the system was gassed, the AC specialist tested it, running only on battery, for 20 minutes and was well pleased with the result in terms of flow and temperature. I do however believe that an upgrade to the alternator would be a positive enhancement.

    Electric Airconditioning for P6B

Both very relevant questions. For the air intake I made up an aluminium plate which blanks the area off and in which I have two round slightly raised ports, each with a mesh screen. This directs air back into the engine compartment, I think or alternately it allows it to vent out. The intention...

    Seat covers

If you want to recover the rear closing panels, make sure you order extra vinyl in the same colour, as those panels are not part of the kit, which is otherwise excellent. Also they include covers for full headrests but not the headrestraints. However they do offer to make covers if you provide...

    Replacement Car Seat Covers

If the seat has been sitting in an open yard, there is no guarantee that the foam is serviceable. I had a couple of secondhand seats and my originals to get two viable seats but then had to replace the seat and back centres. Foam is quiite reasonable, but get advice on density. I used a thinner...

    Replacement Car Seat Covers

Great result. You are much braver than me, I never contemplated splitting the back from the base as I thought it was far too complex. Did mine with the seats intack and it did work well.

    Seat cushion repairs

Nice job. Must admit I used solid Clark rubber foam. It is white rather than yellow and a year plus in my wife commented on Sunday how comfortable the seat is. We were out testing the new electric airconditioning, but that is a post for the future.

    Renew choke cable only?

The replacement choke “cable” I used was also single solid wire. Vaguely think it came from K-mart when they used to stock car things.

    Renew choke cable only?

That may have been due to my lack of competence and the fact that I tired of fiddling behind the console.

    Renew choke cable only?

Hi Mick, imagine it is not that different to a 3500. I did what you are contemplating maybe 20 years ago with no problems. Only “issue” is a plain round choke knob, rather than a hook shaped knob with “Choke” on it and no Choke light reminder. I probably used a basic lubricant like WD40 at the...

    Replacement Car Seat Covers

They are excellent and got to Australia (twice, I did the fronts and backs with a 5 month gap) very quickly. Only issue is that the headrest covers are for the full headrest, not the head restraints. Also need to order extra vinyl for the backs of the front seats and the bit between the rear...

Local [Auckland] vintage and classic car day

Fantastic, didn’t know that existed. A few weeks ago in Pahia saw a parade of interesting mainly US cars and hotrods, but also a Hillman Minx a Mini and Mk3 Zephyr.

    Mechanic required

Not a simple answer as I am replacing the heater unit with a Treeligo underdash a/c (around $800 all up) and want to make the process totally revesible, so needed a “new” front valance to chop out to accommodate the condensor and electric fan so the original valance is untouched. Will need extra...

    Mechanic required

He’ll probably curse me, but Michael Loxton, Kryton Automotive Burwood 03 9888 8797 He’s been looking after our P6B (and other cars) for about 10 years now. We are in the process of installing electric airconditioning.

    Alternative 3 row Radiator

That is high praise indeed from some-one with your accomplishments, but it is due to Michael the mechanic who runs a one man workshop. I only sourced the radiator, he spent quite a bit of time making it fit properly. I forgot to mention rubber spacers/mounts on the bottom pins.My contribution...

    Alternative 3 row Radiator

Currently working on (well Michael the master mechanic is doing the work and I’m getting in his way) fitting electric airconditioning. Decided we needed more than the 2 core radiator and fixed fan so had my old viscous fan waterpump reconditioned. Got hold of an old 3 core radiator in poor u/s...

    Interesting NZ car and colour

Decided after a slight leak in our radiator that it might be time to re-instate the viscous fan acquired around 45 years ago but then taken out when it leaked so just had it reconditioned. Anyhow once at the mouth of the rabbit hole thought it might be time to think about A/C (particularly after...

    Interesting NZ car and colour

Possibly called "Woof" because the owner has the same name for the car as I used earlier "Rover the Wonder Dog"
