    Diff extension refresh thoughts?

The side plates etc are a moderately serious bit of work, but to me refreshing the nose extension is mush easier, doable in place, so to me its not a big gamble to leave it alone and take a punt on the bearing and seal, as long as its dry now.......

    Rear wheel bearing preload

Easy way to loosen those nuts - all wheels on the ground, socket on nut; on RHS have long socket bar pointing to the front, end on the ground, roll if possible else carefully drive forward. On LHS have socket bar facing backwards, move car backwards.

    Potential over heating. 3500

Once in the 70s I met a guy with a 1934 Rover 14, exchanged numbers. A few years later he rang, asking for help - his timing chain had broken and the cam wheel was stuffed. I took his old chain into the city to a place known for having some very old stuff, asked for a new chain, with a straight...

Checked the connection of the sensor is clean, shiny? Grounding that lead should produce full scale on gauge. Do you have an overflow bottle? How old is the sensor - 50 years?

    rover V8 HRC2479 heads

AFAIK all rocker gears can be used on all heads. This part no is the last head casting no. I think you will find a date of 94 or higher. There are some sharp corners in all the ports which can be readily smoothed with a drum shaped bit or similar . Are the valve guides relieved on the top to...

    P6 3500 Battery recommendations

I removed some spacers from under my battery to get it to sit a bit lower, makes it easier to get the cover on neatly. When replacing the battery its a good time to go around all the earths/grounds you can find, disconnect, clean, Deoxit, reconnect. The obscure ones are the most likely to bite...

Fitting electric fan to P6 Rover - few simple Qs?

Davies-craig down here do a thermo switch with a relay and adjustable digital cut-in temp, but in the early models the cut out was only 1 deg C lower , which produced a lot of cycling. https://daviescraig.com.au/product/digital-thermatic-fan-switch-0444/digital-thermatic-fan-switch-12v-24v-0444

Fitting electric fan to P6 Rover - few simple Qs?

Re thermo-fan switches - there is a myriad of these in several thread sizes, the commonest I have seen is M22x1.5. I had a boss this size fitted to my radiator last time it was out. Many are configured for single temperature, others have 2 settings. There are different cut-in, cut out ranges as...

Fitting electric fan to P6 Rover - few simple Qs?

I would guess you have upgraded your alternator - I doubr the 18acr would handle the load of those 2 fans for long.

All of them, especially the 50 P4 with a 90 engine and grille, P3 gearbox with overdrive, bucket seats, P5 front drums... How cool can you get? Drove Melb ->Sydney once (900kms) , not passed by a single vehicle.

    Meet Mr HJ

Yes pipe is available, I have one to put in a 3.9 block. 604143. Replacement with engine in ? Knocking the plug in would leave it in the valley with the pushrod and lifters, probably not good. Suggest Drilling a hole in it (with grease on drill), screwing a self tapper into it and pulling it...

    LT77 gearbox - C and D Series - dimensions different?

Something else to consider. The rear gearbox mount has a big effect on the angle the engine sits at - my 4 speed was difficult to get into reverse becasue the rear mount was very soft, and the lever hit the sides of the tunnel hole - once fixed it was ok. I looked at the slope of the throttle...

    LT77 gearbox - C and D Series - dimensions different?

dont forget that the original box was not centered - look at the cast iron lump in the mount, its asymmetric. The diff input flange is also not centered, hence the uj offset in the prop shaft. My LT77 does not touch the tunnel sides anywhere, and I can get at those adjusters. This my box ready...
