    CARBURETTOR BK SYNCHROMETER/AIRFLOW METER/BALANCER

Hello Measuring the airflow might affect the air flow, so I use something like this: Decibel meter Just be consistent in positioning on the inlet and I reckon it's a good option - better than the various tubes and gauges I have tried. You also get an actual number. Maybe one could debate the...

    Surging, when cold

Hi. Oh, it had a thermostat alright 1969 vintage but it was stuck open! So I swapped one problem (rough starting until hot) with the mirror image issue (OK till hot). Actually better, but still not where it should be. Fortunately it still is in the green, but pretty darn toasty. So will be...

    Surging, when cold

Hello. Thanks for the great comments!!! Re: Thermostat. I now concur with this and earlier comments. The bugger is now officially too hot! So another thermostat is in the offing. Although it’s a lot better than with none at all. Maybe I was reading the Alaska winter motoring configuration notes...

    Surging, when cold

Hi It’s almost certainly not the balance as they are exactly matched. I use a decibel meter in the inlet which results in pretty much exactly the same airflow - especially compared to the ill fitting Gunson thing. It’s such a huge surge that’s why I was thinking fuel. I have had dodgy tuning...

    Surging, when cold

My car is the opposite of the daily driver so running slightly warm just a tad past vertical is not really a concern. Actually when warmed up it's running OK. The car used to be able to quickly have the choke pressed back but nowadays (post overhaul) it will just stall on the dip in the cycle so...

    Surging, when cold

Hello Fresh from achieving smoother running victory installing a new coil and thermostat (88degrees if I recall) on my Federal 2000TC, I now have the next thing on the list to solve - putting to one side for a moment that I neglected to set the handbrake adjustment when installing rear calipers...

    RWT363K - now BRV3500H

Sorry for introducing a side note. Maybe there should be a “what have you ignored” thread. Mine was a knocking noise from the rear (on the interstate 5 freeway). So I thought, “let’s just get to the next exit”......then the wheel fell off; fail. Theres a first and last time for everything.

    Rough from cold - Thermostat?

Nooooo. Then something else will go wrong. The thermostat was fine until it had to start thermostatting.

    Rough from cold - Thermostat?

Indeed. I wanted to keep the old leads for originality! But the coil is probably overdue. Let’s see what differences I can observe. The car does VERY few miles, I can’t mention the exact amount as I might be banned for non usage.

    Rough from cold - Thermostat?

Quack quack indeed. So I reckon, OAP parts of unknown provenance to swap: 1. New thermostat 2. New coil 3. New leads Let’s start with that.

    Rough from cold - Thermostat?

With the choke out it runs OK but without that, there is a lack of power and hesitation. I took pics of the spark plugs after a run and comparing to pics on the internet still left me wondering about the mixture! But if the thermostat is RIP then the last thing I want to do is start farting...

    Rough from cold - Thermostat?

Hi Well my Federal 2000TC does not get too many miles put on but lately it’s really been horribly rough. Usually I put it down to inability to tune it up at my skill level, despite all the attempts over the years but I noticed that the temp needle is struggling to get out of the blue. It’s...

    Front Spring Boing

Thanks for the comments. The rubbers are there but the cup on mine is quite a bit thinner round the edge so it looks different. Poking with a screwdriver shows it’s definitely rubber. I have attached a close up pic of where the spring meets the cup so you can (maybe) see how it is somewhat...

    Front Spring Boing

Hello I checked the roll bar clamps and they were not loose although there was scope to tighten them up slightly. I wonder if there are pics of what they should look like when stationary under load? Maybe mine are more curved than they should be. It is definitely not a "slight" curve. Also the...

Yes there are rubber inserts in both ends. It’s definitely a boing not a clonk.

    Front Spring Boing

Hello When I come up the driveway for example and make a turn up the hill leading to some longer than normal driving spring travel there is a springy boinging noise that comes from the front (although not currently as the engine is removed). I have attached some pics and I wonder if anyone has...

    I love the California DMV

Yes it rather is like the black / silver UK plates. They look nicer although with these you can obviously pick out your own if it’s not taken. But the black plate should really only be early sixties and before (I think). The 1969 year “should” be yellow on blue. But you can’t order those. And...

Maybe I am the first to say that, ever. At the risk of gloating a bit here is what I just received not long ago for the princely sum of about $30 a year or something.

4cyl reluctant to rev, is this normal?

Tom - I think with some sort of extension hose adapter you could make it very precise as there is limited room to poke the meter in. But when angling it just the same on each side and matching the numbers if you then listen to the air flow it’s exactly right. Doing it the other way round is harder.

4cyl reluctant to rev, is this normal?

Hello I recently re purposed a sound Decibel meter (maybe it has a proper name) for carb tuning. You get an actual number for comparison. Just need to make sure the inlet is in the same place. Anyone else tried this? Better than the balancer that doesn’t fit right.

NADA 3500S Might be for Sale

Hello I have a 3500S (LHD) that is here in San Diego. It is a project that might have to be sacrificed. The unpleasant part of that (for me) is that it has a $7000 paint and body job completed. The car is free of rust as you might expect for the location and has some nice black seats and Magnum...
