    looking for a 3500s

Most suffer from inadequate oil changes. Remove the oil filler cap, insert a finger and wipe inside of rocker cover - if dry, oil feed might be suspect. If rockers have caked on gunge the shafts and rockers are probably done for. Not overly costly if you use after market parts, which will...

P6 Three Thousand Five Choke cable.

Mine looked like no4 above. It broke off where the cable is crimped to the straight part of the pull. Afterlooking at it for a while imanaged to silver solder it back together. It took some fettling with a file to get it close to fully seating back into the outer (off the car),but in the end it...

    2000SC to 2000TC carbs

Mine had hd8 carbs, but the linkage looks the same. Suggest you do needles and seats in the bowls, and check the jet tubes while they are off the engine. I seem to recall there are Orings or some sort of rubber on the mounting plates ?

4 Cylinder Car Brake Servo Rebuild

With most hydraulic cups and seals ( PBR anyway) the sizes are moulded on the inside (just visible in the pic),so if you can read them on an old cup you should be able to source a replacement. Even the annular seals I have seen have sizes in the grooved area.

4 Cylinder Car Brake Servo Rebuild

That's Paton's Brake Replacements, PBR. If it stops well, and the pedal is easy to modulate to get the desired braking, its good. worst brakes I ever experienced were on a Volvo 244 - slight speed checks were OK, but the next pressure step produced a panic stop. All I could think was overly...

4 Cylinder Car Brake Servo Rebuild

Not sure if its a 44 or a 40. Be careful - the cheap 44 copies are almost certainly Chinese, and you are gambling on getting one that has the correct internal bores - the slave cylinder came in several sizes depending on application, and the wrong one can give you a strange feeling pedal. A...

    Cylinder head removal

Was there ever a special tool that enabled valve clearance settings off the engine - a steel plate with holes for the valve heads and threaded holes for the head bolts? no special tools listed in the parts book. i know where there is such a plate ~ 1" thick.

    BW35 Inhibitor switch.... simple upgrade?

Another good reason to have a manual box! On royalties for inventions....best one I have heard of is the cut in the edge of a wooden cotton reel, used to trap the end of the thread so it doesnt unravel.

    P6B S Project Car

Elsewhere have reported on dash PCB problem - Speedocame back from calibration without insulator, some pcb track damage cos i didnt twig. The book says there are5 wires connected apart from multi pin connections. mine has 6 wires - Clock power, 2 on the tacho (not confusable as one is spade, the...

How do you remove the S2 dash and clocks etc

Also note for others late to this that the 2 BIG philips screws on the left end (RHD), facing left, do not hold the panel in place, but removal of the top one makes extracting the panel much easier....IMHO. FWIW I have found it possible to unscrew the speedo from the panel, and disconnect the...

    Fuel & Temperature Gauges - Series 2

Not as easy as I had hoped... Speedo came back from recalibration lacking the white plastic insulator, didnt notice that, and now I have more damage to the circuit traces. The one to the gauge has previously been repaired, and now the line to the right turn indicator light is also burnt. BUGGER!

    Oil pump priming

Wasnt completely clear before - the example was on an SD1 pump cover and its sender and switch. The threads were checked with a thread gauge so I am confident of those figures, and the idiot light switch will barely go into the other port 1 turn. If Leyland left these threads Imperial, but...

    Fuel & Temperature Gauges - Series 2

Must be something catching about speedo R&R - just done mine and the temp/fuel gauge is dead. Based on 0v at the temp sender (ign on) I am guessing same as above - voltage stabilizer? Based pics above, can I assume its on the back of said gauge? I have a solid state unit ready to go in.

    P6B S Project Car

Having trouble finding a bellhousing dust cover, so I decided to make my own. Traced the bottom of the bellhousing onto cardboard with a hammer, drilled the bolt holes andtheclutch slave hole, checked the fit. Found a sheet of 1/16" alloy, cut some of it with tinsnips, but had to finish it off...

    Oil pump priming

In case its useful, note that the gauge sender thread is 1/2-20 UNF tapered, and the idiot light switch is 1/2-18 unc(?) tapered. If you could find a barb or tail with the relevant thread it would be easy (and tidy) to pump oil in with a piece of hose.

    Front brake dust boot replacement

Yes! The manual actually recommends NOT splitting the calipers, although the seals used between the halves are readily available. The 3 piston calipers were used on quite a few makes/models of cars. The most common problem is corroded pistons, which correctly fitted boots can reduce somewhat...

    P6B S Project Car

You better believe the bad petrol! There was no unleaded there either . I will send some more to give you a hint on life in Saudi. Anyway, some rover stuff. After getting fuse 10 fixed and the pump running I thought i ought to check that the screen washpumpworked -NO. power was getting to it,but...

Some ancient history - Repco Brabham and OLDSMOBILE

A car show on a street - somebody organises a bunch of clubs to display their cars on a Sunday morning - VERY popular event now, lots of public show up, and lots of good interesting cars. MB 300SL gull wing, very good Cobra replica etc. Most drive to it, but I suspect the bt17 was trailered. MB...

Some ancient history - Repco Brabham and OLDSMOBILE

The early series 6xx R-B engines had outside exhausts, but this is a 7xx series - purely done for ease of installation in narrow chassis. I read once of a Riley tuner in the 30s who built one with 2 inlets and 2 exhausts on each side....he tuned it without exhausts by matching the flame lengths.

    P6B S Project Car

Thanks for that Peter, much appreciated. I had a Disco2 3.9 2 with R380 in Saudi, and even with their poor petrol it performed very well -revved sweetly, never lacked power. Should do well in a much lighter chassis.

    P6B S Project Car

Somehow I blew fuse 10 while I was doing an R&R of the clock and speedo...so in goes another blade fuse adaptor. Apart from the instruments this fuse supplies the windscreen washer, and in my case the Huco fuel pump slaves off the pump connection, so its critical.
