You might try Martin at Distributor Doctor. He should have the correct points.

    Distributor Rebuild

I'm interested in your idea. The points base is seated correctly. It is the type of points set without a secondary pin to seat in the base plate. My mechanical background is limited, but, I'd like to learn. How would I determine of the vacuum advance peg is properly connected? Thanks, Drew

    Rear Brakes/Discs

Well, I'll definitely check the measurements and skim them if appropriate. As far the "Harvey Test", I may save that for another time :))

    Rear Brakes/Discs

Thanks, Harvey. I'll give it a go.

    Rear Brakes/Discs

Harvey- That's pretty much similar to the service manual directions, is it not? Also, when you say to place the stands under the "base unit", what exactly are you speaking of? Thanks, again. Drew

    Rear Brakes/Discs

I'm fixing to change out the rear brake pads and discs ( Rover P6, 3500 Automatic, 1972). I have seen a post where the project is approached from the side of the car initially. The rear wheel is removed, and, then, the final drive is disconnected, allowing access to the disk and brakes. It...

    Distributor Rebuild

No, the dwell is set and stable. And, yes, the distributor functions perfectly fine, but, only, after I've "adjusted!) the heel so that it contacts the cam. I do plan on sending it off, but, I don't relish the thought of not being able to use the car for those 3 - 4 weeks. So, at this point...

Peter- I know, I checked on line. They do seem to be available. I'm not sure what to believe at this point. Thanks,

    Distributor Rebuild

Peter- Just contacted a well-known distributor man about the Mallory. He replied, "They are a dead brand, with no support." Thought I'd pass that along. Again, your input is very much appreciated. Drew

    Distributor Rebuild

Peter- You give me far too much credit for knowledge of mechanics. I wasn't aware of these units. I will look into them. Thank you.

Finding someone on this side of the Atlantic that can work on these fussy old cars is a rare treat. I will contact him today. Thank you, Jim.

    Distributor Rebuild

Morning, all: Re: 1972 P6 3500, Automatic: I'm having a difficult time fitting contact points ( the correct ones, and, of good quality) on my distributor. The heel doesn't contact the distributor cam as it should. I'm thinking it's time to rebuild the distributor. Is this a project that...

    Contact Points

That is a good idea. Thank you for bringing it up.

    Contact Points

Absolutely agree with you. No comparison in quality.

    Contact Points

Thank you for the response! I recently bought a new set of points from one of the better known P6 dealers, and, they were of extremely poor quality. I suspect that they were of Chinese origin. The reason that I asked this question is that I then bought a set from another source, who came...

    Contact Points

A question for those more enlightened than myself in auto electrics: Does the function of distributor contact points degenerate over time such that they don't work as well after wear and time as when new, or, is it a case of either they work or they don't? Thanks in advance.

    AC to ACR conversion

Dochie: Which A127 did you purchase? I've gone on line looking for "Lucas A 127 Alternators" and several show up. Of course, none have an application for a Rover. Thanks,Drew

    AC to ACR conversion

Jasper: When I am idling, and, I have a load on the system ( high beam lights, heater, radio, etc.) the amperes drop to -30 to -40, the ignition light comes on and the engine stumbles. The alternator (11 AC) has just been rebuilt. I've checked voltages at the battery. The results (in volts)...
