    P6B S Project Car

Found a local source of shims so sorted in that area - actually had a suitable shim on the shelf! The older LT77 does not have the oil catcher (TKC5779L) that catches oil inside the case and delivers it through the front to oil the primary input shaft, so I thought I should get one while I can...

    P6B S Project Car

Update - I have both a full SD1 workshop manual and a 2300/2600 supplement (much smaller). Both cover the LT77, but there are curious differences. The SD1 manual specifies layshaft with 0.0002 to 0.002 PRE-LOAD and mainshaft 0.002 endfloat - not explicity stated, but thats what I infer. The...

    P6B S Project Car

Sometimes I wonder why I post some stuff, but you never know when somebody might learn from my mistakes. Changing the speedo drive gear in the rear housing of an LT77- always pull the rear housing off, dont try to drive the gear and the bearing out by going in through the speedo driven gear hole...

First drive... No power thread 2

I had a similar problem once, and it was caused by the reserve tap halfway betwwen the main and reserve travel..... Too rich should produce black smoke, not blue?

Panel lights drawing to much power

The voltage reg only feeds the temp gauge and fuel (I think), not the lights. If you have had any out of the dash lately its easy (ask me how I know) to forget the white plastic insulator that stops metal bodied instruments from shorting out on the copper traces on the circuit board. Do all your...

    gas smell

Fuel leak? Any conditions when it is worst - recently filled tank etc. There is a hose from the filler to the tank that could leak - check the trunk for odour. If yes, remove the card that covers the tank, look for signs of a leak. Also check under the rear suspension for signs of a leak -...

Speedo removal - then fuel gauge US

MMMMMM...sounds a bit like a poor earth somewhere in the instrument connections maybe - check, clean and Deoxit them? Also be aware of the copper lines on the mylar that provide connections to gauges...can be burned out if you refit speedo or tacho without the white plastic insulator - guess...

    V8 mechanical fuel pump query

Surely the copper pipe is not original ? Mine is 74 and its pipe was alloy. Copper work hardens and goes brittle. Off the engine the working lever sits at a very different angle than when its in contact with the cam (on camshaft nose) - the cam works on the underside of the lever, so you have to...

    Carbon break exhaust valves

I have a couple of late engine build manuals and they mention a change of exhaust valve and guide named as above. Anybody know anything about these please?

That looks like a buick front cover - does it have the bigger oil pump gears like the SD1 started?

    P6B S Project Car

Getting ready to swap out the notchy LT77 for the old unit - swapping in the black 8 tooth speedo gear, rear seal. Box was on top of its wooden carry case, and it slipped off...broke off the front tube that the throwout slides on! Bugger! Might be able to braze it back together, but its cast...

First drive... No power thread 2

I did a small rebuild on my carbs some time ago and it seemed to go OK, but not strong. After a while I checked plug colour and it was dead white - very lean. In the end I richened it in steps - nearly another 1/2 turn - and now its very good , revs well, pulls strongly. Plugs milk coffee tips...

    P6B S Project Car

Well, the linkage mods seem to have stabilized the idle nicely, all I had to do after a run and it was warmed through was reduce the idle a little, and its now very good. Cold start is improved - not as many revs as before and more stable warming up. seems to improve every time I do little...

    Fuel leak

I had a leak up front when I got the car - the alloy pipe running along engine had rubbed through on something because the end into the pump had been replaced with a short piece of rubber hose, and allowed the pipe to vibrate.
