    Mid-life crisis!

Mid Life crisis ? Yes I had one car wise when I decided in 1997 to sell my 1976 Spainish Olive P6B in ' as new' condition for a 1985 Series 3 Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign in BRG. It was a good example of the model but bloody expensive to service. The clear coat started to peel off, so I did a bare metal...

Certainly would also be up for a pair. Don't often take her above 60mph, but just had to get past a pair of grey nomads in a 1965ish Commer campervan. LOL

    Police spoilers

Greetings from Australia A recent experience in overtaking another car at 75mph and into a strong headwind and I experienced a lightness of steering ( I do not have PAS ) that had to be corrected. Nothing diabolical but I certainly felt the need to really correct the wayward steering. Which...

    That first car...

No ,not a grand daughters car. I think my grandson is already ordering a mattress. But heck, when I got a Valiant Drifter in 1979 I did the same thing. But certainly not when i got my first Rover the next year. I'd worked out that tweed and a pipe were much more civilised. As for oil changes I...

    That first car...

Greeting all, well I bought my grandson his first car. Remember the 10/10 rule his parents put on the car. Well I convinced them to waive the ten year rule. So.... I bought a 2009 Ford BF Falcon Mk111 Station wagon . 93,000kms, 1 owner, $9250. Australian built Falcons of this era were robust and...

What is a good first car.

If you are thinking outside of the initial parameters I mentioned then for many 18 year old boys in Australia, particularly in regional areas where I live, they want a 'Ute' ie, a truck with a ladder frame chassis. They usually end up buying second hand Toyota Hilux's that were initially used...

What is a good first car.

Well eggbert68B if you son is mechanically minded then, as Arthur Daley once said, 'The world is you Lobster' BTW my second car was a 1964 P6. In 1975. But the topic of second cars is for another day.... The problem of getting older cars for young people is that in this day and age as a parent...

What is a good first car.

Well the time has arrived when my 18 year old grandson has obtained his license and has come to me, knowing I'm a bit of a car dork, to ask , ' Pa, what should I get for my first car'. At the outset his parents have set 2 rules, a $10,000 price point ( 5,000 pound ) and nothing more than 10...

    Temperature gauge

The one I had fitted was a Tridon, and no doubt that's the culprit. And apparently they're made in Australia too. Tut Tut. I've picked up a Calostat on Amazon.

    Temperature gauge

Thanks Ron, I'll hunt down a Vernet. It was a 82 deg one I had installed.

    Temperature gauge

Greetings all. Once the engine has warmed up the temperature gauge on my '72 P6B never moves beyond the space between the white and green coloured zones of the gauge. Earlier this year my mechanic fitted a new thermostat and temperature sender, both bought from Wins. In fact, prior to these...

    Planked teak formica

Greetings from Australia, I'm still on the look out for a complete 6 piece set of the planked teak formica trim. Found on 74-76 models. Replaced the darker rosewood trim. Last time I posted this I was scammed. Much the wiser now. So if you are from the Democratic Republic of Congo Rover...

    P6 electric conversion

Mark, you're making great progress. I'm amazed that you are doing it, but good on you. You will no doubt have the first P6 electric in Australia, if not in the world. I'm in Ballarat, so hoping I can see the finished product one day.

    Rover P6B 3500 SL

Some good thoughts there, gentlemen. With 20/20 hindsight the Series 2 V8 should have had EFI ( hopefully better than the Lucas unit fitted in the Triumph 2.5PI ) and anti skid technology that Rover already had. A couple of trim levels would have helped.

    Rover P6B 3500 SL

What if BL had made a real effort for a final runout and produced what I believe could have been the ultimate P6B ? The Rover 3500SL. Have I left anything out? I'm not including major engineering changes such as fuel injection or ABS. Just looking at the parts bin along as well as some very...

    2000TC vs 3500

Hi Bernd, as for the external bodywork both the Series 1 & 2 3500's had a much larger air intake under the front bumper as the 3500 had a larger radiator. The bonnet and grill of the S1's 3500 differed slightly from the S1 2000TC's, again to accomodate the larger engine. Lewis

    Carpets in NZ assembled cars

Yes, as part of the Aus/NZ local content requirement of the NZ Australia Free trade agreement of 1973, NZ assembled cars used locally sourced carpets, glass, batteries, duco and a range of other NZ or Australian components. NZ cars arrived into Australia tariff free and should have been a sales...

    SU carbs

Greetings everyone. I recently read a very interesting article about the history of the SU carburettor. I didn't know that SU stood for Skinners Union, that the basic design was patented in the early 1900's and that, post war, the SU company was a subsidiary of BMC and then BL. You learn...

    Diff oil

Hi all, Just a couple of questions if I may. 1. Why is oil for the differential called ' gear oil '. 2. Changing the diff oil. When i first got my latest P6B back in 2022 one of the things on my list for the mechanic who first serviced the car, and has continued to do, was if I should get the...

    Front windscreen.

Hi, well I think I was told a furphy by the window tinters I had contacted in Australia. I actually went to our local authority, VicRoads. They said that, at least in Victoria, any after market colour is legal provided it is not on the windscreen, which must be clear unless it was a factory...

    P6 electric conversion

Hi Mark, good to see your project coming along. Off point, I noticed in one of your previous posts that you had refurbished your seats and door cards ? I'm looking to vinyl spray paint my door cards to match the original sandalwood colour. I presume you did the same ? If so can I ask what...
