Unused wiring near coil?

Very close to input connection to coil I seem to have 2 wires bound together in insulation - looks like factory, very neat. Any idea what their origin is please? I found that my coil is getting full battery volts, so there is no ballast in the supply. Series 2, RHD, chassis suffix D.
thanks.

Possibly original ballasted supply and shunt wire from starter for 12v to coil when cranking. Are they white or white yellow ?

JP, my Rover is also a series 2 with chassis suffix D. It also has spare wires near the coil, original factory tape so not sure of the colour. What coil is fitted in your Rover? Mine still has the original factory fitted Lucas 16C6 coil.

Ron.

Ron,
From memory the coil is a Lucas DL101, which lists as a 3 Ohm 12V unit. As insurance against its failure I Have the below on hand, even though its polarity is wrong, it should work.

The negative earth version of that is definitely available, I have had some of it in the past
