Experience with rubber rocker cover Gaskets ?

They do seal well.
However extreme caution is needed as the anti crush rings are not bonded to the rubber. During fitting and especially removing after they have been used for a while the rings can come out of the rubber and drop in your engine.
Yesssss I do know this from experience, and you can indeed run a Rover v8 with gasket spacers inside it without issues:rolleyes:

Thanks. Maybe I will add a drop of superglue on each ring before I use them. Good to know they wont interfere with the works if they do go in. I once had a Rangie with Strombergs on it, and it ate a needle retaining screw. It would start and run with a noisy CLACK, but I couldnt turn it over with the crank handle. Had to pull the head in the end, and along the way the rearmost bolt snapped flush with the block....after an initial panic I found I could tap it round with a jewellers driver, as it now had no load on it. One flattened screw inside, no other damage.

I had four go in before I realised what was going on, I extracted two with a magnet through the holes in the head, they had landed on the lifters, the other two must have made it past the camshaft into the sump, it was not a good day. After a night of consideration I decided that they would come to no harm and would look for them through the sump drain hole at the next oil change. The engine has survived a track day since, so for once I seem to have made the right call in not getting all spannery.

I found them very fiddly to get on, as they seem to be slightly smaller than the the cover and would keep popping off the corners when trying to do the screws up. I eventually fitted them to the cover with some RTV silicone and allowed it to cure on a flat surface first, then fitted them to the car.

Works a treat :)

Bu99er I just realised I missed a golden opportunity to rib Richard about his glue fetish - oh well.

Magnetic sump plug should corral them successfully for extraction.

I wished I would have known before! I also have rubber gaskets with the rings. I did not glue them on.....But good to know this so i can take care if I remove the heads.

As soon as the rocker cover is lifted the rings escape, as sometimes the gasket sticks to the cover and parts of it don't, it is the twisting of the gasket that releases the rings to drop in the head, they then just roll into the engine.
