Help please - excessive oil from rocker covers

Thanks Harvey - I don't know when I'll get the chance to dive into this - I promised the missus I'd put some hours in on her Mk2 Cortina......that's been waiting for paint for 6 years....ooops....

Most are around 105-110psi but #4 and #6 are 84 and 92 respectively. I'm hoping there's an outside chance that a gasket failure has resulted in both dropping, and pressurising the valley or sump at the same time........These are on the drivers side, which is also the side leaking.
They all seem very low, what sort of state is the starter and battery in? Throttle fully open?

Battery and starter good- local mechanic did the test- I'd actually booked in for a leakdown test which I can't do. Only got a compression test :( but it should have been done right. What pressure would you expect?

Riiiiight. That sounds like there's a problem with the whole thing...It's supposed to be only 30K old, so I wonder if it was rebuilt with poor ring end gaps or something. Well -no point in band-aiding it. I guess she gets parked-up until the Cortina's done and then a full rebuild.......bugger.

Seeing they are all so low I’d worry more about the validity of the comp test. It seems off.

I hate seeing a car laid up. You could always fit an oil catch can to your breather and keep topping up the oil to get you through the season.
It is running after all, if you can contain the mess motor on.

Me too. Unfortunately my Mk2 Cortina has been laid up for 6 years (stripped for painting) so the Rover's parking has a silver lining. Got into the Cortina and did some sanding today so at least there's that. The oil catch can would have to be quite large to be suitable for this leak lol. Going to price-up a professional rebuild. Hopefully I can get Reg beck on the road soon!!

I used to work with a guy who had a Vauxhall van, when he got to work he put a tray under the engine, come time to go home he would tip the contents of the tray back in the engine.
I guess he was a recycling pioneer.
