Change of Tyre size ?

No worries!
I think they also make the Sprint Classics with white stripes, but last time I looked they cost three times as much as the plain ones. I'm sure they'd look lovely on a P6, just not that lovely! Same size tyres as Mercedes 'Pagoda', owners of which can generally afford all the stripes they want.

I have been looking to source a set of series 1 SD1 alloys as they are 14”.
they are hard to find.
there are loads of SD1 15” vitesse wheels available. Are these an easy fit to a 1970 Tc?
probably more tyre scope for the larger rim diameter too

The SD1 15" wheels are the Vitesse and VDP EFi wheels. I wouldn't even fit them to a V8, let alone a 4-pot.

The 14" wheels are much better. They do come up from time to time - ask the question on the Rover SD1 Club facebook group, or on their forum.

I like the 15” Vitesse wheels, and they allowed me to fit the Fosseway upgraded brakes. ISTR, but may be wrong, that the Fosseways will not fit inside the 14” wheels.

I've just found a set of original TC wire wheels that I am going to use on my 68 SC. I'm currently running a set of 185s on my steel rims but saw a 1960s Peugoet (is that how its spelt?) with 165 Michellins and it looked really good. Where 165's fitted to both steel and wire wheels on the 2000?

Other than thr bearing caps needing to be trimmed down, were there any other mods you had to do?
Also, what size tyres have you fitted?

The tyre just touched the inside of the O/S D post when cornering hard, so I adjusted this bit when I had the base unit upside down for the rebuild.

I didn't know when I did this, that you can get 7/16 wheel nuts to fit the wheels so you don't have to mess about with changing studs etc, so this is how I did it.

ET phone home

Tyres are 205/65R15s, and are about as close in rolling radius as you can get to the original 184R14s fitted as standard.

As per Quattro's comment, you have to touch the rear of the bodyshell when fitting 15" wheels - only a little bit.

I just like the look of the 14" SD1 alloys better, however, I also prefer 4-pots to V8s. Each to their own :)

My old 67 2000SC, with 14" SD1 alloys and 7/16 wheel nuts fitted.

Quattro and Chrisw ,
really appreciate your replies.

quattro, where did you get the 7/16 wheel nuts from to suit the alloys ?

Chrisw those are the alloys I really wanted. They are far harder ro come by now. A local wheel specialist here in Swansea Has quoted circa £400 to refurb the wheels, plus buying them. That is why
I opted for the 15” as these were already professionally refurbed, look mint and were only £350.
I would still prefer the 14” series 1 SD1 wheels though.
i will review the money situation closer to the time when she will be mobile again

Hi Colnerov
just checked out that site for wheel nuts. Impressive.

i know the thread size will be 7/16, but are the nuts flat or ball taper?
Also how long do they need to be?
if anyone has the details to hand it will save a lot of digging and measuring.

thanks in anticipation

Hi, If you contact him and tell him what you're doing ie. SD1 alloys onto Rover P6b, he will know what nuts will need to be supplied.
