Replaced dizzy cap and HT leads

OK Hands up I could have done this better...... rather than replace 1 lead at a time i replaced them all at once.... now it won't start

So firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 - yes?
Sitting in the drivers seat facing forward the left hand bank of cylinders is 1 3 5 7 with 1 at the front of the car and 7 nearest the bulkhead - yes?
Sitting in the drivers seat facing forward the right hand bank of cylinders is 2 4 6 8 with 2 at the front of the car and 8 nearest the bulkhead - yes?

Assuming I've got that right which contact on the dizzy cap is number 1? Looking at the dizzy cap from the top there are the 2 clips that hold it in place. Starting from the clip on the 'engine side' of the dizzy i attached lead from cylinder 1 to the third contact going in a clockwise direction the 8436572 continuing in a clockwise direction.

No joy.

Help please?

Thanks

Richard

You need to turn the engine over by hand until the timing pointer is on the TDC mark. That will be TDC on cyl1 or cyl6. Remove the cap to see which segment the rotor arm is pointing at. Then, unless you had the plug out of No1 cylinder and felt the compression as the piston rose: Difficult on your own, guess if you think that is No1 and start placing your leads from there. If it doesn't fire and spits back through the carb, swap the leads each with it's opposite on the cap.

Hi Harvey
Thanks for the advice..... this worked well. Leads now back in the correct order.
