Sourcing an OEM 35D Distributor

Hello,

It's likely I'll need to replace my 35D distributor due to notable wear in the upper bush and probably all over (35 years service). I use Lumenition and would like to retain it due to years of service and confidence in it.

Looking around, it appears to be more cost effective to buy a new distributor from Accuspark or Simon BBC and strip out the electronic module than buy a refurbished OEM unit from Wadhams or Distributor Doctor and alike.

My question to existing Simon BBC users is have SimonBBC modified or changed the base plate when fitting their components so as to prevent using it to install the Lumenition system.

[Since posting this, I've found that the distributor chassis is different w.r.t. the baseplate and so no retro fitting of Lumenition is possible).

Many thanks,
Simon

if you can get a good original dizzy with lumenition i'd stick with that. I have a simonbbc dizzy, and whilst it's alright, it has a habit of frying the amplifier module. Also, the bottom was poorly machined and needed filing to fit.

In practice it has a bigger spark than lumenition, but if i wanted a dizzy today i would find the extra money for a 123 ignition i think.

I had a Simon BBC distributor but it caused problems after 2 years, I have a higher capacity oil pump fitted and ordered it with SD1 type gears so i replaced the BBC distributor by a Ranger Rover one and no problems anymore. To avoid problems with the amplifier, i removed it from the distributor and fitted it on a heat sink on the inner wing. It seems they did this from the factory on later Land Rover models

Thanks chaps - I may have found a suppler for an OEM distributor - www.ignitionparts.co.uk - TBC tomorrow.

Rockdemon - Indeed - The 123 Ignition Distributor looks the way to go..

That said - for the price of the above the Maegajolt package with coild packs removes the distributor and improves mapping etc.
