Asking for photos & a few questions - comparison of 14" and 15" rostyles (+alternatives)

Hy guys

I received the answer from the us wheel company.
Unfortunatly they do not offer a custom offset altough they had it written on their youtube clips.
So wheel vintiques is definitly nothing for Rover P6.

I also had some writing with a german guy from rudiger wicke's forum,
he gave me the advise to keep it original because to his experience 205mm tires won't fit.

I can't really believe this, there are a lot of you guys in this forum driving 205mm tires on your P6's and only a few of you wrote about minor modifications to their d-posts (pressing them outwards with a jack)

I read about 205/75 R14, 205/70 R14, 205/65 R15
On mgbd-parts, they also offer minilites especially for the P6 with 14x6" for the 3500S.

Here on Minilite Alloy Wheels for Specialist Cars | Tyresave it says that 14x6 minilites are offered with an offset ET02 to ET20.
So 14x6 with ET20 should fit the P6 without problems...
Am i right?

I have a second company builiding steel wheels in magnum 500 style, maybe they could produce 14x6 with ET20.
I ask them and will tell you.

Hy guys

hm... i found out what maybe most of you still know
It is NOT POSSIBLE to find ANY Rostyle looking wheel that fit's a P6 and isn't a Rostyle...
Damn!

I learned a lot of things during my tire/wheel research:

The body shell sets the limit for wider tires and offsets.
There are 3 possibilities to solve this
  1. jack the d-posts out (gets you 3-5mm)
  2. cut the d-posts and weld them (gets you 5-6cm)
  3. go underdiameter with the tires
The minilites 14x6 with ET +30mm are the widest original wheels for the P6.
Most of you guys drive them with 185mm tires, if someone wants to go wider you have to to modifications like above..
Some minilite drivers (Richard P from v8forum) changed to vitesse wheels because they didn't like the steering geometry and handling with minilites.

Most of you who fitted vitesse wheels wrote that a P6 with vitesse wheels and 205/65 R15 is a much more handsome car.
But i also read that you have to skim 3-3.5mm from the alloy to fit them.

The conclusion for me is:

The 15x6.5" width wheel with around 42-43mm offset and 205/65 R15 is the best choice.
What should i do with that information and the wish to have Rostyle looking wheels???:confused::confused:

I don't know exactly...

Where should i go searching for original rostyles.
I don't care about the condition.

If someone has really bad condition 15" rostyles there would be a possibility for me a to weld them into new 6.5 or 5 rims. A company at home could do this for me, so i could reproduce vitesse wheel settings and go for 265/65 R15.

I search through ebay.com and for-sale.uk everyday. Do you have any tipps/market sites for me?
Thanks Simon

We are already writing each other.
I am just searching a shippment possibilty from County Durham England to Austria.
If the overall price is okay for me, i would take them.

Do you have a hint for me, were i could get the shipping costs from?

Buick Rallye wheels for certain models were 5x5 bolt pattern but I'm not sure on offsets. Skylarks and Wildcats and some others I think. Anyway I remember seeing photos of a p6 wearing a set, either in the US or Canada from memory. I'll try and find photos of you like? They are a much better looking restyle wheel and there seem to be better condition less expensive used examples for sale in the US.
When I fitted my Vitesse wheels I used 205/60/15 tyres which are slightly undersized but only needed a very small amount of d post jacking and the speedo was only a little out. These are for sale now if you are interested, mirror polished lips with black centres. Message me if you'd like more info

Hey Jim,
I saw the last pictures you added with your wheels on... you do great work man! amazing. Can't await to see your mean green hornet in full pride ;-)

I got a offer for a Buick wildcat wheel. Unfortunatly the offsets are also not suitable for the P6.
A company offered me the wheel and to change the offset to my needs, but it`s 450 USD each wheel new painted and rechromed! Including shipping from us, thats a lot.
And i do not like the outer ring the design.

You are too late with your offer ;-)
Cafcpete forwarded me the contact to rostyle offer, i am in contact with the seller and the price for shipping i found out is not bad.
If he agrees to my offer, i will take them.

If not, i will think on your offer.
The black wheels with the polished ring should look nice to paprika.

Simon

Yeah that photo makes the design not look too attractive..I know there were many different variations across the models.
I found the photo, it was from Sweden. They say the wheels are Riviera.

Sorry, I have never done international shipping. But my company always used DHL, the main problem will be packing them up!

Peter

i bought them,
so if everything runs well my P6 runs on rostyles this year, YEAH!

I love this forum...
Have i ever mentioned? You guys are great. Big thanks to Cafcpete for the contact

You are welcome and well done! The forum is great, and there are a number of very good groups on Facebook for rovers and p6's which are worth joining (even if you don't like the idea, you could make a very simple account under a secret identity!). Just out of interest how are you shipping them?

I have placed my transport task on shiply.com and uship.
This is very easy there, you post a photo of the things you want to ship, describe the destination and the approx. dimensions and weight,
and transport companies post their offers like bids in ebay.
You can accept or refuse them, or ask questions.
And they offer full door to door service.

At parcel2go.com i got very cheap offers, unfortunatly without insurance.
But I found out that car parts are not allowed to be sent as a parcel, i dont know why.
I wrote DHL and DPD an email, to check this.

Hi, Ahh yes, You don't tell them it's car parts you need to pick a more vague description. Depending how you've packed them and what the parcel looks like, I suggest 'metal fabrications' or similar.

Colin

The problem is, if they find out they don't take the parcel and keep the money the wrote in the terms and agreements.
If this was in Austria, no problem i could go there and check it.
But in this case i am not in place, can't go to the parcel delivery service to check it directly and if something wents wrong i only have the telephone and my bad englisch.

DPD wrote back, they deliver it also marked as car parts for GBP 44,- incl. VAT. That's a good price i think.
The seller has to bring it to a DPD parcel station, but as he lives in a city (DURHAM) i think this should be no problem to find a parcel station there.

Otherwise i still have the shiply option. The offers differ between 90 EUR and 320 EUR !!!, but i get new ones almost every 3 hours.
But i am not sure to go this way, in the case of dpd i have a tracking number and i can follow the way of my wheels.

Hi, The no car parts is to cover themselves against if they leak oil, not only in the van but over other parcels and the subsequent clean up or claims. It's only there if it all goes wrong. It's the same for tins of paint or batteries but companies still send them by courier. You will find the staff themselves are not really bothered, they're more likely to moan if the parcel is excessively heavy or awkward. Don't worry about it.
