No they are like that. Pretty quiet up to 50-60. Then noisy and your looking for a fifth gear. You'll get used to it.spoilt by modern motors!

The 4 pots are not particularly sweet between 3000 and 4000 rpm, this is what you experience. Above 4000 rpm they smooth out, but then you are well into illegal speeds and you also have a lot of wind noise. Other than that they go straight as an arrow.

No idea what engine revs are, it`s an SC without tacho

I have seen members cars with an additional pod which contains a rev counter and clock, are these retro fittable?

Yes indeed, you can fit a pod and tacho from a series 1 TC. Your clock will fit into the new pod. The pod will bolt straight in, and the wiring (if it doesn't already exist in place) is very easy. They do appear for sale from time to time.
